Scarlett Johansson Reveals Being Eyed as ‘Sex Object' Repeatedly After Lost in Translation Role With Bill Murray; Here's Why
Scarlett Johansson is one of the most prominent names in the Hollywood film industry. But she had her struggling days as well. The actress who is now hailed for her work in outings such as Under the Skin, Jojo Rabbit, as well as the action-packed Marvel Studios films, recently spilled the tea about her hard time after working on the 2006 film Lost in Translation. In her Vanity Fair interview, Scarlett Johansson stated, "After 'Lost in Translation,' every role that I was offered for years was 'the girlfriend,' 'the other woman,' a sex object — I couldn't get out of the cycle." The actress then went on to state that back then, she felt it was her dignity now as an actor, also thinking that she couldn't do much about what was going on with her. Even her representatives did not help the actress from We Bought a Zoo back then to avoid such roles, and were simply reacting "to the norm. The industry worked like that forever." As per the actress from The Prestige, once an actress puts on clothes that she wants, once she simply expresses herself and then she "suddenly turn around and you're like, 'Wait, I feel like I'm being' — I don't want to say exploited because it's such a severe word." In case you don't know, Lost in Translation stars Bill Murray, who played the character of a fading movie star in Tokyo. He is soon shown to befriend Johansson's college graduate. Talking about her co-star, Scarlett Johansson stated that Bill Murray was in a challenging situation back then. She then went on to add that all the people on set, including the director, were "on tenterhooks around him." Catch Johansson in Jurassic World Rebirth. The actress will be seen acting alongside Jonathan Bailey and more. Jurassic World Rebirth is set to release on July 4, 2025.

Adam Pearson 'beyond honoured' to star in Elephant Man remake
Adam Pearson will star in a new adaptation of 'The Elephant Man'. The 'A Different Man' actor - who has neurofibromatosis - is "beyond honoured" to have been cast as Joseph Merrick in a new feature film, which will be written by Moby Pomerance, the son of the late Bernard Pomerance, who wrote the original 'Elephant Man' play. Adam wrote on X: "Well — here's the announcement — I am beyond honoured to be playing this role and involved in this project. "Shout out to my reps and family for their unwavering support and huge shout out to those who follow and support my work. I love you all." John Hurt played the role in David Lynch's 1980 'Elephant Man' film while the likes of Bradley Cooper, the late David Bowie, Billy Crudup and Mark Hamill have all played Merrick - who got his nickname as an exhibit in 19th century freak shows due to his physical disfigurements - on stage, but 40-year-old Adam will be the first disabled actor to take the role on screen, Variety reports. The acto noted Merrick "is a man I have a long and complex relationship with." He added in a statement: "From having his name used as a term of derision to learning about the man himself in documentaries I've presented. It's been a cathartic journey of growing to love and respect a man who I as a child I avoided even thinking about. "Now as a disability advocate and actor, I can think of no greater honour (yet heavy responsibility) than to tell the true story of Joseph Carey Merrick.' The 'Under the Skin' actor previously criticised the BBC for casting 'Stranger Things' star Charlie Heaton as Merrick in a TV adaptation which appeared to later be shelved. He told LBC Radio in 2018: "I think the job ultimately should go to the best actor, however, actors with the condition you're trying to portray should absolutely be the first port of call, irrespective of how much extra effort that is for a casting director or production crew. "Don't be lazy, be authentic." And Adam admitted he would always be subjected to ridicule when he was younger if 'The Elephant Man' was ever on TV. He told People magazine last year: Anytime 'The Elephant Man' or 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' was on TV, the next day I'd hear that nickname." Filming is scheduled to begin on 'The Elephant Man' next year.

A Different Man's Adam Pearson to star in new film of The Elephant Man
Adam Pearson, the actor who appeared in Under the Skin and the Oscar-nominated A Different Man, is to play the lead role in a new adaptation of The Elephant Man. According to Variety, Pearson will play Joseph Merrick, whose physical disfigurement led to him becoming a freak show exhibit and then a notable figure in late Victorian London, in a film based on the celebrated play by Bernard Pomerance that became a hit in London and New York after premiering in 1977. Pomerance's son Moby is writing the screenplay, and shooting is due to begin in 2026. Pearson, who has neurofibromatosis and will be the first disabled actor to play the role on film, said in a statement: 'Joseph Merrick is a man I have a long and complex relationship with. From having his name used as a term of derision to learning about him in documentaries I've presented, it's been a cathartic journey of growing to love and respect a man who as a child I avoided even thinking about. Now as a disability advocate and actor, I can think of no greater honour (yet heavy responsibility) than to tell the true story of Joseph Carey Merrick.' Merrick was born in Leicester in 1862 and after becoming an exhibit in a 'penny gaff' in London, came under the care of pioneering surgeon Frederick Treves, who gave Merrick accommodation at the London hospital, where he died in 1890. The exact nature of his condition is not known, with suggestions he may have had neurofibromatosis or Proteus syndrome, or both. Pomerance's play was first performed in the UK in 1977, with David Schofield in the lead role; subsequent productions featured actors including Philip Anglim, David Bowie and Bradley Cooper as Merrick. The celebrated film of the same title, starring John Hurt and directed by David Lynch, was not adapted from the play.

Adam Pearson Has Been The Target Of Disgusting Online Comments, And I Hate That He Even Had To Acknowledge Those Trolls
A Different Man star Adam Pearson fired back at online trolls making insensitive remarks about him. After bumping his head in his bedroom when he was 5, the bump never healed. He was taken to several specialists and was ultimately diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 1, a rare genetic disorder that causes benign tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. By the time Adam was 8, the tumors began to increase in size, making his facial deformity more noticeable. During a recent interview with People, the 40-year-old British actor opened up about the bullying he experienced in school, but he refused to feel sorry for himself. 'Anytime The Elephant Man or The Hunchback of Notre Dame was on TV, the next day I'd hear that nickname,' he said. Secondary school was particularly painful: 'I'd take a deep breath before walking through the gates and try to hang on.' 'You can get bogged down in, 'It's not fair. Why is life so cruel?' It doesn't solve anything.' I'll truly never understand the perverse pleasure some people get from being cruel to others. Despite being subjected to such treatment, Adam has continued to thrive on and off-screen. He began his career in TV production for the BBC and Channel 4, and later landed his first feature film alongside Scarlett Johansson in the 2013 movie Under the Skin. Most recently, he starred in the psychological dark comedy A Different Man with Sebastian Stan. The two recently reunited at the 2025 EE BAFTA Awards and while many saw this as the latest celebratory stop for their film, others used it as an opportunity to criticize Adam and his appearance. When the seating chart for the BAFTAs was released, Adam could be seen next to Camila Cabello, both of whom would be presenting awards during the ceremony. Well, an online troll made this disgusting remark about it: "This is genuinely so scary, I would not attend the event if I were Camila." To which Adam responded, "Luckily for everyone you're not Camila and - most importantly - weren't invited. So from me, Adam Pearson, directly to you - take your nonsense opinions elsewhere as I have EXACTLY zero time for your anonymous, ableist nonsense." The original poster has since deleted the tweet, and offered a half-baked apology, while also calling him out for all of the people who came to Adam's defense in their replies. "I made my tweet trying to be funny & it wasn't. I forget that my tweets can actually affect people & even tho you're famous, you still see comments like those. I deeply apologize & have deleted my tweet. I'll take the deserved backlash." "I made an insensitive joke and deleted the tween when it had less than 200 likes," they wrote in a separate post. "I addressed you and apologized. I deleted the tweet before you had even made a post about it. You took that tweet and turned something that was already deleted, into thousands of people harassing me and sending me death threats & news articles made about me." This response came without acknowledging all of the people who piled on their nasty comments about Adam under the original post made about him. Both Adam and the online troll deleted their tweets to each other, but the torment didn't stop there for him. Another online troll shared images of Adam and Warwick Davis. Warwick is widely known for his roles in popular franchises like Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Leprechaun. He was being honored with the BAFTA Fellowship, a lifetime achievement award for his contribution to film and TV. Warick was born with Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia Congenita (SEDC), a rare genetic disorder and form of dwarfism that results in short stature and skeletal anomalies that primarily affect the spine and long bones of the arms and legs. Instead of applauding both of their accomplishments, the troll decided to write, "was this an award show or was the circus in town." Are you kidding me? WTF is wrong with people?! Warner Bros. Being the stand-up guy he is, Adam had the best reaction: The original poster has since deleted their tweet after receiving backlash for it. And I couldn't agree more! I'm glad to see him take on these trolls with such vigor, but I'm also extremely frustrated that he had to. Tim P. Whitby / Getty Images
