Namibia's Windhoek Islamic Centre names madrasah after Tuanku Syed Faizuddin
KUALA LUMPUR: The Windhoek Islamic Centre has named its madrasah the Faizuddin Academy for Ilm and Dzikr in honour of Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail. The naming was a culmination of an effort by the Charge d'Affaires of Malaysia to Namibia, Datuk Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya, in recognition of the Regent of Perlis' contribution in kind and cash to the Windhoek Islamic Centre, which administers the affairs of the Muslim community in Namibia. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin's two-year contribution included a soup kitchen to the needy after Friday prayers, said Rameez in a statement on Sunday. He said the Raja Muda of Perlis, through Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (UniSIRAJ), would also provide scholarships to Namibian Muslim students to pursue their tertiary studies in Perlis, Malaysia beginning this September. Thus far, four Namibians have been accepted to pursue their Islamic tertiary studies at UniSIRAJ, said Rameez. At the naming ceremony, the chair conveyed a heartfelt gratitude from the Windhoek Islamic Centre to Malaysia - a non-Arab and non-African country - for its assistance since Islam took root in Namibia through its first batch of indigenous Muslim converts in 1979. Rameez hoped that the madrasah would serve as a starting point for the dissemination of Islamic teachings to help the people of Namibia understand Islam's role in creating a united, peaceful, and harmonious society in Namibia. – Bernama

UniSIRAJ Aims To Launch New Study Programmes, Including AI
GENERAL KANGAR, April 21 (Bernama) -- Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (UniSIRAJ) aims to introduce, among others, artificial intelligence (AI) study programmes in line with state government's policies over the next five years. UniSIRAJ rector Prof Dr Muhamad Rozaimi Ramle said this was to meet the current global employment demand, thus producing graduates in tandem with the vision of Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also the varsity's Chancellor. Muhamad Rozaimi told Bernama this after the UniSIRAJ Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration that was officiated by Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra at Dataran Pelajar of UniSIRAJ's Kuala Perlis campus, near here, today. UniISIRAJ was previously known as Kolej Universiti Islam Perlis (KUIPs) . Speaking at the Seventh KUIPs Convocation at Dewan 2020 in Kangar on Nov 23 last year, the Raja Muda of Perlis announced that the Higher Education Department had approved the institution's registration as a university through a letter dated Nov 15, 2024. Muhamad Rozaimi said that UniSIRAJ currently has 28 study programmes, including Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Computer Science, Bachelor of International Business and Bachelor of Business Administration as well as Foundations of Islamic Studies and Diploma in Syariah. Commenting on the development of the institution, he said UniSIRAJ recorded an increased number of intakes each year, with over 600 students recorded for this year's sessions compared to the 550 targeted last year. "Despite facility constraints, we will control intake and strive to improve facilities here. We are also carrying out campaigns to attract Perlis-born students, including providing free tables to new students… the response has been encouraging,' he said. He added that UniSIRAJ is also targeting at least a three-star ranking for the Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA) in the near future as part of efforts to enhance the university's excellence.
