MHA deadline to end today: police depts. told to ensure exit of Pakistani nationals
Police departments in various States, including Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, were asked to ensure that Pakistani nationals leave the country by Sunday, as per the Union Ministry of Home Affairs' (MHA) April 24 directive. The order issued by the MHA following the Pahalgam terror strike stated that all visas, except medical, long-term and diplomatic visas, issued to Pakistani citizens will be revoked from April 27. Those with medical visas have been given until April 29 to leave. On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asked all Chief Ministers to ensure that Pakistani citizens don't stay beyond the deadline. 'Clear instructions' Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said his government had compiled a list of Pakistani nationals currently in the State, and steps were being taken to ensure their departure in accordance with the MHA order. 'We are systematically identifying Pakistani nationals in Maharashtra. Clear instructions have been issued to all the police stations that individuals holding Pakistani visas must not stay beyond 48 hours. Legal action will be initiated against those found overstaying,' Mr. Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, told reporters on Saturday. A senior Maharashtra Home Department official said that a total of 55 Pakistani nationals with short-term visas have been asked to leave. As per data shared by the official, 18 of those are in Nagpur, 19 in Thane, 12 in Jalgaon, three in Pune, and one each in the districts of Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, and Raigad. Speaking to The Hindu, M.P. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) A. Sai Manohar said they have started the process to identify and locate Pakistani residents whose visas are set to expire on Sunday. While Mr. Manohar did not disclose the numbers, a senior State Home Department official said there are around 235 Pakistanis in M.P. 'Most of them have already been directed to leave, and many are on their way out. But we will double-check data to be sure,' the official added. Mr. Manohar, however, said that the final tally was still being compiled. Similar drives are under way in other States. Police Commissioner of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Tarun Gaba on Saturday said four Pakistani nationals had visited the district. 'One left yesterday while three others are expected to leave tonight,' he said. The Bihar government said that all the Pakistani visitors to the State have left well ahead of the MHA deadline. A drive is also under way to identify and facilitate the exit of Pakistani Hindu refugees in Delhi. (With inputs from PTI)

Fear in Pak. refugee camps as MHA visa deadline draws near
Fear and anxiety have gripped the camps housing Pakistani Hindu refugees in the Capital as their visas are set to expire on Sunday, in accordance with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs' (MHA) order following the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. The order exempts those with diplomatic, official, and long-term visas (LTVs). Many Pakistani refugees who possess LTVs and whose applications for citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 are still under consideration said their future in India is uncertain. Hari Dass, a Pakistani Hindu refugee staying in a camp near Signature Bridge in east Delhi, said a police officer had on Friday asked him to prepare a list of all the refugees at the camp. 'I was asked to make a list of refugees with their name, age, parents' name, passport and visa details, and the date of exit from Pakistan,' he said. A total of 932 Pakistani Hindus live in the camp, and no one has received Indian citizenship yet, added Mr. Dass. In another camp, near Majnu Ka Tilla in north Delhi, Dharamveer Solanki, a Pakistani Hindu refugee, said the police had given him a similar task. 'In our camp, 181 people have received Indian citizenship. But documents of 81 refugees are under verification. I was asked to prepare a list of all the refugees,' he said. Mr. Solanki added that some of his relatives in Pakistan recently received Indian visas and were planning to join him, but they now remain stranded at the Attari-Wagah border.
