Civil defence and fire brigade personnel demonstrate swift response during 30-minute mock drill in Nashik

Nashik: The Nashik district administration on Wednesday conducted a mock drill under ' Mission Abhyas ' of Union govt to test preparedness for air the mock drill, a siren was sounded at KTHM College along Gangapur road at 4.30pm, followed by simulated bomb blasts and emergency response efforts. Over 250 personnel from various departments participated in the 30-minute exercise, which aimed to enhance coordination and emergency response skills under the directions of Union said as the mock drill progressed, two ambulances arrived at the scene in a matter of few minutes, immediately followed by the fire brigade and the home guards. Before the mock casualties were attended to, the fire brigade personnel took up the work of firefighting. The home guards, accompanied by the NCC cadets and volunteers of Nashik Climbers and Rescuers, shifted the victims with the available instruments with them, leading to the culmination of the mock Jalaj Sharma said while he was satisfied with the overall response time of the departments that participated in the mock drill, establishing a perimeter for crowd control could be improved upon in such future exercises. "Many more such exercises will be conducted in the coming days with different scenarios like chemical or biological attacks. Our aim will be to improve our response time and spread awareness among citizens in the coming time," Sharma was among the sensitive places spread all across the country, where the mock drills were conducted, as a part of a nationwide exercise ordered by the ministry of home affairs. The mock drills were categorised into three groups based on the city's sensitivity and strategic importance. The highly sensitive areas included cities like Mumbai (including Uran and JNPT port) and Tarapur (with its nuclear facility). Among major cities, the mock drills were held in Nashik, Pune, Thane, Sinnar, Thal Vaishet and Pimpri Chinchwad. Other cities included Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Bhusawal, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.A blackout exercise would be carried out in Nashik as and when the district administration got instructions about it, the collector added.
