He was killed by military aircraft during a joint operation by the IDF and Shin Bet. The IDF on Friday killed the terrorist Khalil Abd al-Nasser Muhammad Khatib, who commanded Hamas's Al Mawasi battalion, and was responsible for the deaths of 21 soldiers in January 2024, the military said on Sunday. He was killed by military aircraft during a joint operation by the IDF and Shin Bet. Khatib commanded terrorists to launch anti-tank missiles at buildings housing IDF soldiers and at a tank crew providing cover for soldiers in the al-Mawasi area on January 22, 2024. The buildings were laden with stored explosives, and the grenades set them off causing their total collapse. Khatib continued to be involved in numerous terror attacks against IDF troops throughout the war after the incident in January 2024, the IDF said. The IDF forces who were harmed were mostly reservists from Unit 8208 assigned to clear certain areas of dangerous items. Yonah Jeremy Bob and Gadi Zaig contributed to this report.

For First Time: Zionist media reveals details of Qassam Operation that killed 21 soldiers in Al-Maghazi

Gaza - Saba: Zionist media outlets have disclosed details of a complex military operation carried out by the Qassam Brigades in Al-Maghazi, central Gaza, early last year, which resulted in the killing of 21 Zionist officers and soldiers, including 14 from Unit 8208—most of its members were eliminated. Zionist soldiers who survived the operation told Zionist media that the occupation army intensified its fire in the area and conducted multiple sweeps, believing it was secure before sending in engineering forces to demolish buildings. They noted that rescue forces attempted to reach the site but passed through a minefield pre-prepared by Qassam Brigades, which was detonated before the fighters withdrew. This prompted the occupation aircraft to launch frenzied airstrikes around the area, isolating it. Heavy machinery was then brought in and operated for nearly 12 hours to recover the dead soldiers from the building. At the time, Al-Qassam Brigades published details of their targeting of Zionist enemy forces in Al-Maghazi refugee camp, stating that at exactly 4:00 PM on January 22, 2024, their fighters successfully executed a complex operation east of the camp. They targeted a house where a Zionist engineering unit had fortified itself with an anti-personnel shell, causing an explosion of the ammunition and engineering equipment in their possession, completely demolishing the building on top of them. Al-Qassam Brigades added that after the operation, their fighters targeted a "Merkava" tank securing the force with a "Yassin 105" shell and detonated a minefield as rescue forces arrived, leaving them all dead or wounded while the fighters safely withdrew to their bases. The Zionist enemy army had announced the killing of 21 officers and soldiers in what it described as the "hardest" incident its forces faced during the ground invasion of Gaza but provided no details about the operation. Al-Qassam Brigades also broadcast footage obtained from Zionist army cameras showing soldiers while they were booby-trapping houses in Al-Maghazi.
