83-year-old Democrat hardliner Bernie Sanders does not completely rule out running again for US President in Joe Rogan interview

Democrat United Sates Senator Bernie Sanders has been pressed if he plans to run again for US President just days after he launched a fierce attack on current president Donald Trump. Mr Sanders, aged 83, previously ran for the job in both 2016 and 2022, with both times resulting in unsuccessful bids to be the Democratic Party nominee. In a newly-released interview with popular podcaster and comedian Joe Rogan, Mr Sanders labelled the campaign finance system for US elections 'corrupt'. 'Which is rejecting the will of the American people, and end up supporting powerful special interests. And if we do not get a handle on that issue, I worry very much about the future of American democracy," he said. The US Senator was then faced with the question of whether he will run for commander-in-chief again, with the next possible chance being the 2028 presidential election. Mr Sanders replied, 'I am 83 years of age,' adding he didn't think the American public would be 'too enthusiastic' about the idea. Rogan then complemented his guest regarding his age saying, 'you're still very with it' and made a comparison between him and former US President Joe Biden, who is over one year younger than Mr Sanders. 'You could be off a lot worse,' Rogan claimed, to which Mr Sanders replied 'yes'. Mr Sanders has been vocal about his stance towards the US strikes on Iran, calling the move by the Trump administration 'grossly unconstitutional' at a rally last week. 'All of you know that the only entity that can take this country to war is the US Congress. The president does not have the right,' he said to the crowd. Mr Trump in April this year delivered a backhanded compliment to the 83-year-old, calling him a "lunatic" who he said was "still pretty sharp". The nearly two-hour long podcast episode featuring Mr Sanders has received over 2.1 million views on YouTube since being released on the platform on Wednesday.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says talks with US delegations aimed at ending the war in Ukraine to take place in Saudi Arabia next week. ADVERTISEMENT Just one week ago, the world witnessed an unprecedented debacle unfold in the White House as US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy were gripped in a heated argument. The meeting between the two leaders ended with no breakthrough on any peace efforts. A US-Ukraine rare earths deal was also scheduled to be signed at the meeting, but was postponed after White House officials reportedly asked Zelenskyy to abruptly leave. Tensions continued to soar in the days that followed, as Trump continued to hold the position that Zelenskyy is not serious about achieving peace. The new Washington administration also announced suspensions in all military and financial aid as well as US intelligence to Kyiv in the wake of the Trump-Zelenskyy row. But things may be taking a turn for the better as the Ukrainian leader announced on Thursday on his official Telegram channel that he will be meeting with US officials soon to resume the interrupted peace talks. The talks are expected to take place early next week in Saudi Arabia. Zelenskyy – who called the public Oval Office spat 'regrettable – will meet the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh on Monday, after which meetings with US officials will take place. 'Next week, on Monday, I am scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia to meet with the Crown Prince. After that, my team will remain in Saudi Arabia to work with American partners. Ukraine is most interested in peace.' 'As we told President Trump, Ukraine is working and will work exclusively constructively for a quick and reliable peace,' added Zelenskyy in a statement on Telegram. US Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, will be traveling to Saudi Arabia to represent Trump at the talks. Witkoff says discussions are taking place with Ukrainian officials to coordinate a meeting. 'We are now in discussion to coordinate a meeting with Ukrainian in Riyadh or even potentially Jeddah,' Witkoff told reporters outside the White House. 'I think the idea is to get down a framework for a peace agreement and an initial ceasefire as well'. Witkoff also said that the talks are being arranged after US officials were given a reason to believe that Ukraine is now finally serious to engage in meaningful peace negotiations. 'President Zelenskyy sent a letter to the president (Trump). I think the president thought that it was a really good, positive first step,' noted Witkoff. 'There was an apology. There was an acknowledgement that the United Sates has done so much for the country of Ukraine, and a sense of gratitude. I think that's the biggest deal, right?' US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce echoed the same message in a press briefing, adding that Zelenskyy showed an understanding of what's at stake, and noting that only one person can bring those parties – Zelenskyy and Russia's President Putin – to the negotiating table, Donald Trump. ADVERTISEMENT Trump also briefly commented on the ongoing developments. In an Oval Office briefing, Trump says the Ukraine wants to make a deal because they 'don't have a choice'. He added that Russia also wants to make a deal because in a 'certain different way, that only I know, only I know, they have no choice either'. Trump offered no further elaborations as to what the Kremlin's motive may be.

Starmer to attend European crisis meeting after US lays Ukraine-Russia plan bare

Keir Starmer is set to join a European crisis summit to face down the threat of Russia after the US barred European leaders from peace talks with Vladimir Putin over the Ukraine war. France is preparing to host the last-minute, informal meeting with Nato secretary general Mark Rutte following comments by Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky that the continent should form an 'army of Europe' as it could not rely on the US for defence. Sir Keir said: 'This is a once in a generation moment for our national security where we engage with the reality of the world today and the threat we face from Russia.' 'It's clear Europe must take on a greater role in NATO as we work with the United Sates to secure Ukraine's future and face down the threat we face from Russia. 'The UK will work to ensure we keep the US and Europe together. We cannot allow any divisions in the alliance to distract from the external enemies we face.' Sir Keir will take the messages from this meeting on the way forward on Ukraine to Washington DC the following week to discuss at his meeting with president Donald Trump. The prime minister spoke to Mr Zelensky on Friday morning and discussed the importance of a US security guarantee to ensure that Putin does not attack Ukraine again once peace is reached.
