Ex-football starlet 'stabbed' to death in Glasgow home

Josh Taplin was found dead inside a house in the city's Knightswood area on Monday, May 5. Police received a report of a concern for a person at a property on Caldwell Avenue. Officers were alerted to the incident at around 3.35pm. After that, emergency crews flocked to the scene. However, on arrival, tragically, the body of a man was found inside the property. Detectives from Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team have since launched an urgent murder inquiry into the youngster's death, with the hunt for a killer underway. However, it has since emerged that a 41-year-old woman was also found with injuries in the Caldwell Avenue area amid the incident. She was rushed to hospital for treatment, however, she was later released. It is understood that the woman was injured inside the same property where Josh was found. Another added: 'You'll be sadly missed, Josh. You were a good lad. Rest in peace. "Thoughts are with your family through this terrible time.' A GoFundMe page has also been set up by one of Josh's pals, Stephen Kelly, to help his family with funeral costs. The fundraiser has since raised more than £25,000 for Josh's family. "Josh won both the Western District Scottish Championships and the British Championships. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.' Likewise, if you were driving in the area and have dash-cam that could assist, please contact us. 'We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the wider public. Screams were heard from the property and neighbours raced to try to save Josh, who played in the youth ranks at Hamilton Accies and was also a boxer in his teens. Police Scotland launched a murder inquiry into the horrific death and said it was an 'isolated incident with no threat to the wider public. A local said: 'We heard screams which was really unusual as this is a very quiet area. 'One of the neighbours ran into the home to try to help but it was too late. 'Josh had been stabbed and had no chance. 'There were people screaming and a woman who was outside the home was shouting 'is Josh in there?' But police wouldn't let her in to find out. 'It was horrendous.' Earlier today, girlfriend Toni Stewart, 23, paid tribute to tragic Josh and said he was the 'best thing to happen to her.' Sharing a picture of the loved-up pair together, she said: 'I'll love you for the rest of my life. Forensic specialists in white suits were seen going into the property to conduct a detailed examination of the crime scene. Josh was a former player in the youth ranks at Hamilton Accies and was among a clutch of promising players at Chryston High School, near Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, who won the United Schools Cup in 2013. He also played for the Accies at youth level and enjoyed success with the Lanarkshire boys team at 2011 International Children's Games. Last night Accies club secretary Scott Struthers said when told of Josh's passing: 'Awful news.' He was also a talented boxer who represented Auchengeich Boxing Club. In a statement posted online the club said: 'We at Auchengeich Boxing are devastated at hearing the news of our boxer Josh Taplin.' Meanwhile, heartbroken pals have chipped in to give Josh Taplin 'the send off he deserves. Hundreds of people have already contributed towards the GoFundMe page set up by Josh's friend Stephen Kelly in the wake of the devastating loss. And it's well on the way towards hitting the £24,000 target that's been set in tribute. Detective Chief Inspector Graham McCreadie, of the Major Investigation Team, said: 'Our thoughts are with the family of Josh at what is a very difficult time. 'They are being supported by specialist officers. 'It is vital that we find answers for them and we are appealing for information as our enquiries continue.
