Missouri PSC OKs Missouri American Water's $143M hike in water rates
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved a rate increase for Missouri-American Water Company, raising annual water and sewer revenues by $143 million.
The amount is $23 million less than the company originally requested in July 2024.
The approved settlement was signed by PSC staff, the Missouri Office of the Public Counsel, the Midwest Energy Consumers Group, the Consumers Council of Missouri, AARP, and MAWC.
Other involved parties (the City of St. Joseph; the Missouri Industrial Energy Consumers; The Empire District Electric Company d/b/a Liberty; Public Water Supply Districts No. 1 and No. 2 of Andrew County; the City of Riverside; and Triumph Foods, LLC,) did not file objections but were not signatories.
The order also addressed cost allocation and rate design but rejected a proposed Universal Affordability Tariff, citing lack of cost estimates, shareholder participation, and legal compliance.
New rates will take effect after MAWC files and the PSC approves revised tariff sheets. The rate increase is scheduled to go into effect by May 31, 2025.
