Sivasangari Powers Into World Championship Quarter-Finals
KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 (Bernama) -- National women's squash ace S. Sivasangari lived up to expectations by cruising into the quarter-finals of the 2024-2025 World Championship in Chicago, the United States. The seventh seed took just 34 minutes to overcome American Amanda Sobhy 3-0 (11-8, 14-12, 11-6) in their third-round clash at the University Club of Chicago early this morning. Sivasangari is scheduled to face home favourite Olivia Weaver in the quarter-finals after the fourth seed ousted Egypt's Salma Hany 3-1 (11-7, 9-11, 11-7, 11-4) in 47 minutes.

Sivansangari defeats Spain's Marta Dominguez in first round of World Championships
PETALING JAYA: National squash player S. Sivasangari got past her first challenge at the World Championships in Chicago after defeating Spain's Marta Dominguez in the opening round on Saturday (May 10). World No. 9 Sivasangari went a little longer than expected against world No. 52 Dominguez but came through with an 11-4, 11-5, 16-18, 11-2 win at the University Club of Chicago. Seventh seed Sivasangari will take on world 17th seed Sana Ibrahim of Egypt in the second round, and will look to make it her fifth straight win against Ibrahim. World No. 26 Aira Azman also progressed into the second round as she defeated England's Torrie Malik 11-8, 10-12, 11-7, 11-8 and set herself up to meet world No. 12 Salma Hany of Egypt in the second round. Joining them in the next round is Rachel Arnold, who also had a four-set match with Egypt's Nour Heikal as she won 11-9, 11-9, 4-11, 11-3. But Rachel faces a tough challenge in the second round as she meets fourth seed Olivia Weaver of the United States. Weaver made her way into the second round after defeating Aifa Azman 11-3, 11-2, 11-1. Noor Ainaa Amani Ampandi also ended her journey in the first round as she lost to world No. 8 Amanda Sobhy of the United States. Sobhy won 11-3, 11-2, 11-3. In the men's category, world No. 10 Ng Eain Yow got past No. 53 Patrick Rooney of England with ease as he won 11-8, 11-5, 11-6. Eain Yow will take on world No. 58 Mohd Asim Khan of Pakistan in the second round.
