A teenager has been arrested following the theft of a car from a residential premises in Firhill, Parteen, Co. Clare. The incident occurred at approximately 6:15pm on Friday. Advertisement During the course of this theft, a woman aged in her 70s suffered non-life threatening injuries. She was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. A number of Garda units were dispatched and the vehicle was subsequently located in the Clonard area of Parteen where it had crashed into a ditch. A male juvenile teen was subsequently arrested and taken to a Garda Station in Limerick where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He has been referred to the Youth Diversion Programme and a file will be prepared for the DPP. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R464 near Parteen Village and the Clonard area of Parteen are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station. Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.

Four women killed in serperate collisions over the weekend

Four women have been killed in separate road collisions across the country over the weekend. A woman in her 70s died while cycling in Co. Clare in a crash involving a tractor at Toonagh, Tulla, 10km outside Ennis on Saturday, shortly before 1 pm. She was pronounced dead by the emergency services at the scene and was removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem. There were no other injuries reported. Another fatal collision occurred later on Saturday at Curraghgraigue, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, at 3 pm, in which a female pedestrian in her 20s was killed. After gardaí and emergency services responded to the collision involving a car on the R702, the woman was removed from the scene to Wexford General Hospital, where she later passed away. Gardaí have stated that investigations are ongoing and have appealed for witnesses. A woman in her 60s, also a pedestrian, was killed on Saturday evening outside Ashbourne, Co. Meath, after being struck by a car on the Dublin Road between Nine Milestone and Coolquay at around 7.10 pm. The woman, named locally as Theresa Morgan, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was removed to Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, for a post-mortem. The number of road deaths so far in 2025 is now at 65, a decrease of eight from last year's figure for the same period, of 73. Bernadette 'Bernie' Cranley, 82, from Lifford, Co. Donegal, died when a Toyota Vitz she was driving collided with another car on the notorious A5 road between Omagh and Newtownstewart, Co. Tyrone, on Saturday afternoon. The other driver, a woman in her 70s, was taken to hospital and is understood to have serious injuries. The number of road deaths so far in 2025 is now at 65, a decrease of eight from last year's figure for the same period, of 73. Ms Cranley's fatal crash was not recorded on the Garda database as it took place north of the border. A fatal collision has occurred on average once every two days since the year began.

A woman has died after being hit by a tractor while cycling in Co Clare on Saturday. The incident happened on the L3180 road at Toonagh, Tulla at around 12.45pm. 'The cyclist, a woman aged her 70s, was pronounced deceased at the scene,' An Garda Síochána said in a statement. The woman's body was taken from the scene to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where a postmortem will take place in due course, the force added. READ MORE The road was closed for a period on Saturday while a technical examination was carried out by Garda forensic collision investigators. An Garda Síochána appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have relevant camera footage from the area at the time, to contact Ennis Garda station on (065) 684 8100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station. The woman's death brings the number of fatalities on the State's roads this year to 63, including five pedal cyclists.
