Kaizer Chiefs sign three South Africans and one Nigerian
Friday was a hugely exciting night for Kaizer Chiefs supporters. The highly reliable outlet, Unplayable, announced that Amakhosi have signed Asanele Velebayi from Cape Town Spurs and Etiosa Ighodaro from AmaZulu FC. The duo's double signing follows after the reported signing of two former Orlando Pirates full-backs: Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako. On Friday, the Kaizer Chiefs squad reported for fitness and medical tests before their trip to the Netherlands for a preseason training camp between 3 and 19 July. The trip will include friendly matches against Eredivisie clubs NEC Nijmegen and Utrecht FC. The Nigerian was on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, and his deal with Kabo Yellows ends on 30 June. The incoming Kaizer Chiefs striker joined Sundowns from Abuja College in 2021. He became a loan journeyman with spells at AmaTuks, Chippa United, SuperSport United, and AmaZulu. He managed 88 appearances, which included 25 goals and four assists. Reports also say coach Nasreddine Nabi has two new fullbacks: Mako, 31, and Monyane, 25. After not agreeing on new deals with Orlando Pirates, the duo have become new Kaizer Chiefs players. In the meantime, Amakhosi are linked with three more players. The list includes Bafana Bafana winger Mihlali Mayambela (28) of Aris Limmasol in Cyprus. There is also the SuperSport United duo of Ime Okon (21), a central defender, and Aphiwe Baliti (23), a left-back.
