Jelly Roll Lands A New Bestseller With Some Help From ‘American Idol'

Jelly Roll's 'Unpretty' debuts in the top 10 after American Idol duet with winner Jamal Roberts ... More while fellow single "Liar" also soars. CLEVELAND, OHIO - AUGUST 3: Jelly Roll performs during WWE SummerSlam 2024 at Cleveland Browns Stadium on August 3, 2024 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo) Jelly Roll's latest album Beautifully Broken has already spent months on the Billboard charts, and fans are still heavily consuming the country and rock project. The full-length earns a bit of a boost this week after the multi-genre singer-songwriter appeared on American Idol and dueted with Jamal Roberts, who went on to win the twenty-third iteration of the reality staple. The two musicians delivered collaborative renditions of two of Jelly Roll's tracks from his latest release, and thanks to that high-profile performance, one of the featured tunes has become yet another top 10 hit for the Grammy-nominated superstar. 'Unpretty' launches on a pair of Billboard rankings this frame. The track, taken from Beautifully Broken but which has not yet been pushed as a proper single, debuts at No. 8 on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart. That new placement gives Jelly Roll his fourteenth career top 10 showing on that list. The same cut has been classified by Billboard as both rock and country, qualifying it for not only the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, but also the Country Digital Song Sales tally. That second list is a bit more competitive this time around, so Jelly settles for launching the track at No. 12, collecting his twenty-third career appearance in the process. In both instances, 'Unpretty' earns the third-highest debut on the two charts. On the rock side, Jelly lands behind 'God Is a Weapon' by Falling in Reverse and Marilyn Manson (No. 4) and 'Let You Fade' by Linkin Park (No. 6). Over on the country list, American Idol season 23 runner-up John Foster debuts in second place with 'Tell That Angel I Love Her,' while 'What I Want' by Morgan Wallen and Tate McRae kicks off its run at No. 10. Jelly Roll and Roberts paired 'Unpretty' with 'Liar,' which was released last summer as a single from Beautifully Broken. That track rejoins the Country Digital Song Sales tally at No. 3 and rises to the runner-up spot on the rock-only list. Sales of 'Unpretty' grew by more than 1,800% from one week to the next, according to Luminate, and that gain is tied directly to American Idol. Purchases of 'Liar,' while greater, increased by just under 200% during the same timeframe.

Generate Key Takeaways Matthew Lawrence was the first celebrity from the Lucky 6 to be unmasked on The Masked Singer. The actor and podcast host was voted out Wednesday after performing "Unpretty" by TLC on the Fox reality-competition series. "It felt like I was a hermit crab without its shell," Lawrence tells Gold Derby about removing the mask (watch the video interview above). "It was not the most enjoyable part of the experience. I have stage fright when it comes to singing in front of crowds so this was getting over a fear for me. The saving grace was that I was Paparazzo — a character — that felt familiar to me as an actor. That's what grounded me and kept me from losing my nerve. I didn't want to be me out there." More from GoldDerby In Paparazzo's second clue package this season, many of the hints were about Lawrence's role in Mrs. Doubtfire opposite the late Robin Williams. "It was a pretty epic experience," he recounts. "The crew had just gotten off of Jurassic Park. Steven Spielberg, Chris Columbus, Robin Williams. He changed my life. He really took me under his wing and gave me advice about navigating the business — not just as an artist, but as a human being. I miss him dearly. I'm honored that I got a chance to do that." As a tribute to Williams, Paparazzo sang "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley during "Shrek Night." Lawrence calls the performance "spiritual" and says, "That was the one moment throughout the whole show — the sweat, the rods [in my back], the big helmet, and not being able to breathe — I had a moment where I was able to just sing to the audience. I lost myself and I was like, 'I'm doing it!' I had that for a second, so that was what was really special for me." SEE Candace Cameron Bure says Bob Saget 'would have been pumping my tires up' as Cherry Blossom on 'The Masked Singer' For his final performance in the Lucky 6, the actor admits he had "just a little help" from his famous girlfriend, Rozanda "Chilli" Thomas of TLC. He took on her trio's number one hit, "Unpretty," before his big reveal. "They give you a questionnaire when you accept to do this show and one of the questions was, 'What's a guilty pleasure song you would sing in the shower?' As a joke, I wrote 'Unpretty,' because it was true! When it first came out, as a guy, I don't want to be out there singing 'I'm unpretty!' So, I would sing it in the shower! When Fox asked me to do it, I had to go ask. Tionne [T-Boz Watkins] wrote it, so I had to ask Chilli, 'Can your bandmate sign off on this song for me to sing?' They were so supportive. I was so honored to do that." Lawrence says he had the most fun singing "That's Amore" during "Rat Pack Night" because he was able to pay homage to his Italian roots. "That was a blast," he says beaming. "[My] immigrant family came over here and they couldn't pronounce the name so they made us take my dad's middle name, which is Lawrence. It's Mignogna — all the g's are silent. No one can say it! That's how that happened." Fans can currently listen to Lawrence ham it up with his famous brothers, Joey and Andy Lawrence, on their podcast, Brotherly Love, which is available across all podcast platforms. Who was behind the mask? Latest ‘Masked Singer' reveal uncovers star linked to TLC

The latest episode of The Masked Singer Season 13 aired on Wednesday and revealed the identity behind the costume of Paparazzo. Actor Matthew Lawrence was unmasked after performing TLC's hit song 'Unpretty,' in a moment that tied in with a personal connection. His performance, along with a clue referencing a reptile zoo and a famous family, led panellist Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg to correctly guess his identity. Other guesses from the panel included Frankie Muniz, Jason Ritter and Ben Savage. Lawrence, known for his roles in Boy Meets World and Brotherly Love, is in a relationship with Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas of TLC, a connection teased ahead of the unmasking. In his pre-recorded segment, he stated, 'Man, if you had told me that this little guy would still be standing here, I'd say you're crazy. Because I've never sang before.' He added, 'The next song is the biggest hint to my identity yet. So listen closely.' This season has already featured several celebrity reveals including Erika Jayne, Method Man, Candace Cameron Bure, James Van Der Beek, and Oscar de la Hoya. The 'Lucky 6' episode gathered finalists from all three groups — A, B, and C — with characters like Coral, Pearl, Boogie Woogie, Nessy, and Mad Scientist Monster still in play. Panel regulars Nick Cannon, Rita Ora, Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg and Robin Thicke returned, with Ora continuing to fill in for Nicole Scherzinger. The Masked Singer Season 13 continues on Fox with themed nights and more celebrity unmaskings ahead.
