Layovers just got a major upgrade at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Right on time for the hectic Memorial Day weekend travel rush, designer discount retailer Marshalls has just unveiled The Upgrade Lounge—a luxurious, week-long pop-up experience at Terminal 4 of the New York City-based airport, where tired travelers can stop by to recharge and refresh before their next flight. From Wednesday, May 21 through Wednesday, May 28, JFK travelers will be treated to snacks, a beauty bar, complimentary amenities, and a peek at the latest must-haves from Marshalls' latest storefront: The Upgrade Shop. Created in partnership with and curated by Summer House star Amanda Batula, The Upgrade Shop includes deals on elevated fashion staples and travel accessories that are worthy of a first-class upgrade, without the first-class price tag. Now, here's the best part: no tickets or purchase is necessary to check out The Upgrade Lounge. Aligned with the brand's mission to deliver high-quality, designer products at an accessible price point, this lounge will be free and accessible to all JFK airport travelers. "Marshalls is all about giving everyone access to the good stuff," Sonya Cosentini, Marshalls Vice President of Brand Marketing, said in a press release. 'This Memorial Day weekend, we're bringing that same philosophy to travel with The Upgrade Lounge.' In fact, according to a survey conducted by the retailer, cost is a primary barrier for two in three travelers who want an elevated, more pleasant airport experience. Most airport lounges are exclusionary, offering access only to certain credit card holders, people who spend a great deal of money on flights, and those who can afford first-class and business-tier tickets. The Upgrade Lounge will be open in the mornings from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm ET, and again in the evenings from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm ET—but weary travelers who miss these windows can still relax in the lounge's cushy couches and swivel chairs outside of operating hours. And while The Upgrade Lounge pop-up will depart JFK airport after the holiday weekend, you'll be able to shop The Upgrade Shop all summer long.
