Udupi DC hands over ₹25L compensation to Bengaluru stampede victim's family in Hebri
Deputy Commissioner K. Vidyakumari, on Tuesday, visited the house of Chinmayi Shetty, one of the victims of the stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 4, at Indiranagara in Hebri, and handed over a cheque for ₹25 lakh as compensation from the State government to the family.
Ms. Vidyakumari consoled Chinmayi's parents, Karunakara Shetty and Shantha Shetty, and other family members who were present and assured all support from the administration.
Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, Kundapura Assistant Commissioner S.R. Rashmi, Hebri Tahsildar S.A. Prasad, and Sub-inspector of police T. Mahesh, among others accompanied the DC.
Chinmayi, daughter of Uppinangady-native Karunakara Shetty and Hebri-native Shantha Shetty, was studying BE in an engineering college at Kanakapura Road in Bengaluru. The family stays in Bengaluru at present. While Chinmayi was cremated in Bengaluru, the last rites would be conducted in Hebri, relatives said.
Chinmayi was active in Bharatanatyam, film dance, etc., and was learning Yakshagana, her parents said. She was a basketball player too.
