100 deadliest days claims life of Heber City man, family working to take him home to Mexico
HEBER CITY, Utah () — The 100 deadliest days started this weekend, and it proved to be busy for Utah Highway Patrol. As of Monday, troopers made 77 DUI arrests, responded to 172 crashes and investigated one fatal crash. Sadly, since then, more people have lost their lives on Utah roads. One of those was a man who's called Heber City home since 2017 and worked to support his parents in Mexico, Eliezer Ramirez. The Ramirez family lost their brother in a car wreck this Tuesday. If it wasn't hard enough already to mourn the loss of a loved one, they are now focused on how to get him home to their parents in Mexico. 'I didn't believe it until I got there to see him,' Gabriel Ramirez stated. 'I saw him when they brought him down. For me it was hard, very hard.' Utah family prepares to bury WWII pilot who was MIA for 80 years Gabriel is Eliezer's older brother. Gabriel has lived in Heber City for 18 years. His brother joined him in 2017. He told ABC4 that having his brother here was the best. He didn't want to show his face on camera because he was emotional while speaking about his brother, but he wanted to make sure he told Eliezer's story. Gabriel described Eliezer: 'My brother is a person who is easy-going, friendly, he really liked to play with the kids [Gabriel's four children], have fun, dance and work.' 'We all came here to do well, to work, to get ahead, to help my parents get ahead,' Gabriel said while explaining what brought the brothers to Heber City. Eliezer worked as a painter and helped support his parents in Mexico. 'They are destroyed,' Gabriel added in regard to how his parents are coping. Idle Isle Café up for sale, former employees speak out The family is holding a mass for Eliezer in Park City on Friday. However, that won't be their final goodbye. They are raising money () to take Eliezer back to Michoacán so he can be buried near their parents' home. It won't be an easy feat. After arriving at the nearest airport, they'll have to drive him about six hours. That normally wouldn't sound like much, but their trek will take them over undeveloped, dirt roads (there is an example of those roads in the attached video). However, it'll be worth it to bring some closure to their parents. 'There are losses that one is never going to overcome,' added Gabriel. Meet the new faces at Utah's Hogle Zoo! Man brands his flatmate a 'disgusting slob' - and then is found dead days later
When police in Las Vegas responded to a report "of a foul-smelling odour" coming from a storage container, they eventually discovered Matthew Kelemen's rotting body A man branded his flatmate "a disgusting slob" - and was discovered dead just days later Police responding to a report "of a foul-smelling odour" coming from a storage container found Matthew Kelemen's decomposing corpse. It was wrapped in a sheet inside a locked plastic bin on a residential street in Downtown South, Las Vegas, last Tuesday. It has since emerged the 56-year-old man, who was a freelance journalist, told his family his flatmate was a "disgusting slob" and he felt "really uneasy living there". The flatmate became prime suspect in the murder investigation in Las Vegas but he died days later in a high-speed police chase. He topped speeds of 140mph before hitting spike strips, losing control, and being ejected from the car on a highway in Utah, a pursuit police say was unconnected to the murder probe. Mr Kelemen, who spent most of his career at Las Vegas Magazine, likely died as a result of blunt force trauma, it is understood. His sister, Mikki Zaferatos told local media the Review-Journal investigators believe he was struck from behind with a hammer. Speaking to the outlet, Ms Zaferatos said: "He'd only lived there for about six months, but he kept telling my brother what a strange guy [the flatmate] was. He said he was really uneasy living there. 'The guy was a disgusting slob,' were his words." Mr Kelemen, a keen musician, had told his sister he intended to "confront" the flatmate about his behaviour, an admission which helped identify the man as the prime murder suspect. But the 63-year-old suspect died following the crash in Utah, police confirmed. Utah Highway Patrol did not give reporters further details about the chase, except stressing it was not linked to the murder probe in the neighbouring state. Ms Zaferatos described her family's heartbreak as "horror movie stuff". She added: "I'm barely holding it together... I could not process what was going through my brain." She said police told her her brother's rotting body was found in what they described as a large crate. Ms Zaferatos believes this was one of the writer's amplifier boxes as he liked to play the guitar. Mr Keleman had worked as a reporter in the Las Vegas area since he moved there in 2003, and was a staff writer at now-defunct 944 and City Life magazines. At the time of his death, he also freelanced for Las Vegas Weekly and Vegas magazine. His last pieces published before his death were pieces about Janet Jackson and a preview of Memorial Day Weekend in Sin City, respectively.

One killed in T-bone crash with semi-truck on SR-40 near Heber City
HEBER CITY, Utah () — One person was killed after being T-boned by a semi-truck on SR-40 just north of Heber City in Wasatch County on Tuesday. Utah Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 8:15 a.m. on SR-40 near milepost 15. A Nissa Xterra was attempting to make a left-hand turn to go eastbound on SR-40 as the semi-truck was heading west in the same location. UHP said the Xterra pulled out in front of the semi truck and was T-boned on the driver's side. The driver and lone occupant of the Nissan Xterra reportedly suffered fatal injuries and died on the scene. Their identity has not been publicly released. As of noon, the Utah Department of Transportation said SR-40 is still reduced to one lane in each direction. Drivers are advised to expect delays and encouraged to use an alternate route if possible. 4-car crash involving UTA bus stalls I-15 traffic near Farmington
UPDATE: All four lanes have been reopened as of 10:30 a.m. However, drivers may still experience residual delays. The full original story can be found below. ORIGINAL STORY FARMINGTON, Utah () — A four-car crash involving a UTA bus on I-15 has brought traffic to a near standstill between Farmington and Centerville early Tuesday morning. Corporal Jared Haywood with Utah Highway Patrol told the crash happened around 9 a.m. near mile marker 321 just north of Centerville, and involved a bus with the Utah Transit Authority. Gavin Gustafson, a spokesperson with UTA, said the crash appears to be a 'chain reaction accident,' based on preliminary information. One car reportedly crashed into another, and the UTA bus swerved to avoid the wreck, only to hit another car. Haywood confirmed that the crash did cause injuries, but it is unclear how many people were injured or how severe the injuries are. Gustafson said the bus was en route for the start of its shift and did not have any passengers on board, and the bus driver did not suffer any injuries. While the UTA bus sustained some minor damage, Gustafson said it was still in working condition. The Utah Department of Transportation said the crash is blocking four left-most lanes on southbound I-15, leaving only a single lane for traffic to pass through. UDOT said drivers can expect heavy delays and encouraged commuters to take an alternate route, if possible. Alternate routes include Legacy Parkway or detour to the West Davis Corridor. This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.
