2 world feats for Ganga expressway in 24 hours
Lucknow: The , the longest and one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in Uttar Pradesh, is a shining example of CM 's visionary development model. Spanning 594km, the expressway — currently under construction by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority — has brought both national and international recognition for the state by setting two world records. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In the Hardoi-Unnao division, a major achievement was recorded by laying down 34.2-km of within 24 hours. The process involved covering 0.17 sqkm of area of the carriageway by deploying 20,105 cubic metre of bituminous mix, the highest construction progress made in 24 hours globally. The previous record of laying done bituminous material was made in 2023 over the Ghaziabad-Aligarh expressway. The present work in Unnao was achieved by using five hot mix plants each with a capacity of 200 tonne per hour. Adding to this achievement, a second world record was set by installing 10km of Thrie beam crash barriers in a day — a first such civil work execution done over an expressway in the country. The two milestones are a product of Yogi govt's unwavering focus on speed, quality and transparency, backed by the constant monitoring. Last month, Yogi had inspected the key sections of the Ganga Expressway in Hardoi, including the emergency airstrip in Shahjahanpur and Ganga Setu in Hapur, and directed officials to ensure timely and high-quality execution. To uphold international standards the expressway's riding quality and user comfort are evaluated using AI technology developed by ETH Zurich, Switzerland. Representatives from the Golden Book of World Records, Asia Book of Records and Indian Book of Records visited the site, validated the two projects and issued official certificates. Officials said that private company (Patel Infrastructure Limited) has been credited with executing the record-setting works. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now BOX CM gives credit to UPEIDA, PM's guidance CM Yogi Adityanath congratulated UPEIDA for having achieved two world records in 24 hours while constructing the Ganga Expressway. Rajnath Singh thanks armed forces for giving ‘befitting reply' to Pakistan
Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday thanked armed forces for giving a befitting reply to Pakistan through Operation Sindoor after the April 22 terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, and said India has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. 'Through Operation Sindoor, India gave a clear message to the entire country of its willingness to respond to terrorist attacks,' Singh said while virtually inaugurating the BrahMos Missile complex in Uttar Pradesh. 'This is not the first time that India has responded to terrorist attacks. The Uri surgical strike, Balakot air strike and now after the Pahalgam attack, India has shown the world how it can respond to terrorist attacks,' Singh said. 'We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism... On behalf of everyone, I thank our arm forces for giving a befitting reply to Pakistan through Operation Sindoor,' he said. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 through which the Indian Air Force carried out air raids against nine targets in Pakistan administered Kashmir and Pakistan's Punjab province. Commenting on the BrahMos facility in Uttar Pradesh's state capital Lucknow, Singh said that now India is fast emerging as a Defence Industry hub. The BrahMos production unit has come up on 80 acres of land in Bhatgaon in Sarojini Nagar Tehsil in Lucknow, provided free of cost by the Yogi Adityanath government. Completed at a cost of ₹300 crore in three-and-a-half years, the facility will manufacture the world's fastest supersonic cruise missile—a joint India-Russia project with a range of 290 to 400 km and a top speed of Mach 2.8. The BrahMos can be launched from land, sea, or air and uses a 'fire and forget' system, making it highly precise and difficult to intercept. The project is part of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the UP Investors Summit in Lucknow on February 21, 2018, the corridor spans six strategic nodes—Kanpur, Jhansi, Lucknow, Aligarh, Agra, and Chitrakoot—under the supervision of the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). The six nodes in Uttar Pradesh's corridor are located near major expressways like the Purvanchal Expressway and the Ganga Expressway. This ensures smooth transport and logistics. Singh said that Kanpur, which was known as Manchester of East in the past, will regain its lost glory due to the Defence Corridor project. Singh pointed out that till date around ₹4,000 crore MOUs have been rolled out in the state under the Defence Corridor project. 'The inauguration of BrahMos today holds much importance as it was on this day on May 11 ,1998, India had carried out Nuclear tests at Pokhran range in Rajasthan,' Singh said. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, deputy CMs Keshav Pradad Maurya, Brajesh Pathak and industrial development minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi' and others were present at the event. Rajnath Singh joined the event virtually from New Delhi. 'The project has been completed in record 40 months due to the support of CM Yogi Adityanath for making available all resources,' said Singh. Earlier, addressing the gathering, Adityanath said, 'This is the same Uttar Pradesh which was once called a 'Bimaru' state. Today we are a revenue surplus state. Today, Uttar Pradesh has the largest network of expressways and metro in the country. Today the state has maximum airports, and four international airports are in operation. Soon, Asia's biggest airport (Noida Int'l airport) will be operational.' Adityanath said. On the Defence Corridor project, he said that work was in progress in all six nodes of the corridor.

Lucknow to enter cruise missile club with BrahMos unit inauguration today
The state capital will enter the league of cities producing cruise missiles when the BrahMos production unit complex is inaugurated here on Sunday. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the BrahMos missile complex with defence minister Rajnath Singh virtually joining the event from New Delhi. Built at a cost of ₹300 crore, the BrahMos production unit in Lucknow stands on 80 hectares of land provided free of cost by the Yogi Adityanath government. Completed in three-and-a-half years, the facility will manufacture the world's fastest supersonic cruise missile—a joint India-Russia project with a range of 290 to 400 km and a top speed of Mach 2.8. The defence minister and the chief minister will also inaugurate the Titanium and Super Alloys Materials Plant (strategic materials technology complex) on the occasion. This plant will produce high-quality materials for aerospace and defence sectors, which will be used in missions like Chandrayaan and in fighter jets. The BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility will also be launched. It will play a key role in testing and assembling missiles. The foundation stone for a Defence Testing Infrastructure System (DTIS) will also be laid at the Lucknow node. This system will help in testing and certifying defence products. DRDO secretary Sameer V. Kamat will deliver the welcome speech, while Sachin Agarwal, chairman of PTC Industries, will talk about the company's contribution. Uttar Pradesh is the second state after Tamil Nadu to establish a Defence Industrial Corridor, launched in 2019. Both corridors are key to the 'Make in India' and 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiatives, aimed at reducing defence imports, boosting indigenous production, generating employment, and encouraging participation from private firms, MSMEs and startups.

Lucknow's BrahMos complex set for launch, may see early production
A joint venture between the Indian and Russian governments, the BrahMos Aerospace project will see its first stage of commissioning this Sunday. Initially, the unit is projected to manufacture the latest version of 100 supersonic BrahMos missiles annually. Considered the 'crowning jewel' of the Defence Corridor in Uttar Pradesh, the BrahMos complex, located in Sarojini Nagar of the Corridor's Lucknow node, is scheduled to be launched by defence minister Rajnath Singh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Defence Corridor project on November 21, 2021 in Jhansi. In the next five to seven years, missiles worth ₹900 crore are expected to be manufactured in the Defence Corridor, whose development is being spearheaded by Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). BrahMos Aerospace was created as a joint venture between the Indian government's DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) and 'JSC' 'MIC' NPO Mashinostroyenia (NPOM) of the Government of the Russian Federation. The company was established in India after an agreement was signed between the two governments on February 12, 1998. BrahMos Aerospace was set up with 50.5% Indian and 49.5% Russian ownership, and it is the first defence joint venture of its kind that is established by the Indian government with a foreign government, according to a government statement. UPEIDA, meanwhile, has signed memorandums of understanding with 93 companies for investment of ₹11,256 crore in the Defence Corridor. 'It is the most prestigious project in the Defence Corridor of Uttar Pradesh. The latest version of the supersonic missile will be manufactured in Lucknow. The state government has accorded top-most priority to the BrahMos project,' said Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi', the industrial development minister of Uttar Pradesh. 'Due to the importance of the project, the production of BrahMos missiles could start in the Lucknow unit earlier than the stipulated time. The complex will be inaugurated on May 11,' added the minister.
