Agra court orders FIR against cops for ‘custodial torture'

Agra: A case has been filed against "unidentified police personnel" following an order by the special chief judicial magistrate (CJM) in Agra after an accused in a cow slaughter case alleged that police beat him up and then shot him in the leg. The accused, Imran alias Babua, was arrested on May 31 after an alleged encounter with Rakabganj police. "A team signalled to stop two men, including Imran, on a scooter during routine checking. But they turned sharply toward Nai Basti, and one of them opened fire at the police. In retaliatory fire, Imran was shot in the leg and subsequently arrested, while the other person managed to escape," Agra Police officials had said after the incident. Imran, however, later claimed in court that police first assaulted him and then shot him. He showed injuries that were not mentioned in the initial medical report. A second medical examination, ordered by special CJM Achal Pratap Singh, confirmed two additional injuries. Based on these findings, the court directed the registration of an FIR and sent a letter to the director general of police (DGP), Uttar Pradesh, flagging the alleged custodial assault as "a human rights violation" and calling for departmental action. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP?
