HC seeks state response as engrs' strike disrupts services
Dehradun: The Uttarakhand high court on Monday heard a public interest petition challenging the ongoing strike by junior engineers across all three UPCL corporations. A bench comprising Chief Justice G Narendar and Justice Alok Mahra issued a notice to the striking organisation and directed the Dehradun district magistrate to hold discussions with the protesting staff and file a response.
The petition, filed by Harsul Sharma of Shiv Colony, Dehradun, said that junior engineers from all three Uttarakhand Power Corporation entities had been on strike since June 5, 2025, over pending demands.
Sharma argued that the unresolved dispute had caused significant public hardship amid severe heatwave conditions. "The resulting power shortages have adversely impacted hospitals, schools, domestic appliances, tube wells and other essential services. Moreover, with the ongoing Char Dham Yatra, the absence of street lighting presents serious safety concerns," he said.
The petition urged the court to direct the state govt to resolve the matter swiftly to alleviate the inconvenience faced by the public.
