VE Day commemorations get underway in North Ayrshire
Ayrshire town salutes the fallen on VE Day anniversary.
The sacrifices of many North Ayrshire people who fought in the Second World War were remembered on a landmark anniversary today.
Thursday, May 8 marks 80 years since the end of World War Two in Europe, when the guns fell silent and people took to the streets to celebrate peace and mourn those who would not return home.
This morning at 9am, North Ayrshire Provost Anthea Dickson raised the flag in honour of those who lost their lives on the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
At the ceremony, the Provost read the VE Day Proclamation joined by Council Leader Marie Burns, Chief Executive Craig Hatton, elected members, council officials and special guests.
