Beloved Sacramento media personality Big Al Sams dies
( — A beloved media personality who worked as a disc jockey and reporter in Sacramento for over two decades has died, CBS announced Tuesday.
Alvin Sams, popularly known as Big Al Sams, lit up Sacramento airwaves from CBS Radio for almost 15 years, beginning in the late 1990s. He also hosted 'V Mornings with Big Al' on the hip-hop station KHYL-FM V101 for nearly 10 years. Additionally, Big Al worked as an entertainment and lifestyle host at KTXL FOX40 from 2017 to 2019 and as a features reporter for Good Day Sacramento on CBS since 2021.

'I've never heard anyone say anything negative about this guy- ever,' said FOX40 Anchor Eric Harryman. 'All who knew him said that Sams was larger than life to say the very least. He will be dearly missed by a whole lot of people.'
Big Al celebrated his 55th birthday in December 2024. The cause of his death is unclear, however, CBS announced plans for an on-air tribute to his legacy on Sunday morning.
