Earthquake strikes near Barstow in Mojave Desert as California seismic activity picks up
From the desert to the sea to all of Southern California, the ground keeps shaking in the Golden State.
At 9:50 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, a magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck 10 miles north-northeast of Barstow in the Mojave Desert, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake was in the Rainbow Basin Natural Area, known for geological and paleontological features, multi-colored rock formations and scenic canyons. A variety of desert adapted wildlife are found here, including the desert tortoise, according to the Bureau of Land Management.
Barstow resident Georgia Marshall told the Daily Press the quake felt 'like a phone in vibration mode going off in your pocket or purse.'

The U.S. Geological Survey reported the following earthquake in or near Southern California:
2:16 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, a magnitude 3.5 quake struck about seven miles south of Idyllwild east of Hemet in Riverside County.
Shortly after 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, an estimated 3.5 magnitude quake struck about 6.8 miles from Malibu in Los Angeles County.
At 11:44 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, a magnitude 3.7 earthquake struck roughly seven miles northwest of Malibu.
At 9:44 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake occurred about 3 miles north-northeast of San Bernardino and near the San Andreas Fault.
At 9:48 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, a magnitude 3.0 quake struck 3 miles north northeast of San Bernardino.
At 9:58 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, a magnitude 3.6 quake was reported about 3 miles north-northeast of San Bernardino.
At 1:57 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, a magnitude 2.8 earthquake struck 6 miles north-northeast of Ocotillo Wells and east of the Salton Sea in San Diego County.
At 2:23 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, a magnitude 3.2 quake occurred about 9 miles northeast of Little Lake, just north of Inyokern in Kern County.
At 4:22 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, a magnitude 2.8 quake occurred 6 miles southwest of Corona in Riverside County.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damages due to any of the quakes.
