2 Kansas City residents arrested in Eagle County after 40 pounds of PCP found by K-9

DENVER (KDVR) — What could have been a simple traffic stop ultimately led to a multi-jurisdictional drug task force finding two five-gallon containers of 'angel dust' and the arrest of two Kansas City residents. The arrests happened on March 7 when a Vail Police Department officer, who is assigned to the multi-jurisdictional GRANITE drug task force, stopped a vehicle on eastbound Interstate 70 in Eagle County because they were tailgating another vehicle. During the stop, the occupants 'made statements that raised the officer's suspicions of further criminal activity,' according to the Eagle County Sheriff's Office. Long-time intimate partner of Montbello mother sentenced to prison for her death The officer deployed K-9 Mojo, a narcotics detection dog, who sniffed around the car and had multiple positive alerts, according to the Eagle County Sheriff's Office. Because of this, officers had probable cause to search the vehicle, which they did. Inside the trunk of the car were two five-gallon containers, the sheriff's office reported, and a field test on the liquid inside tested presumptively positive for narcotics. Additional testing done in collaboration with Homeland Security Investigations showed the substance was liquid PCP, or prevented liquid phencyclidine, a potent hallucinogen that's also called angel dust, black dust, Crystal T or Goon Dust, according to the Eagle County sheriff. Police arrested both people inside the vehicle and identified them as Brian Kirk Lockett, 46, and Shanella Lanae Jones, 43. They were taken to the Eagle County Detention Facility where each had bond set at $100,000. They are each facing: Unlawful distribution of a controlled substance Unlawful possession of a controlled substance Special offender Conspiracy Lockett and Jones are scheduled to appear in court next on April 22. The sheriff's office is encouraging anyone who may have information about the case or the suspects to contact them at 970-328-8500, or to provide the information anonymously through the Eagle County Crime Stoppers at If a tip leads to an arrest and indictment, you could earn a cash reward. Homicide suspect fleeing Florida caught while stuck in Colorado mountain traffic

A 32-year-old man wanted by federal authorities in Florida was captured last week when Vail Police Department officers and SWAT team surrounded a bus stuck in backed-up traffic. Aldo Armijos-Castillo was identified and removed from the bus Jan. 22nd, shortly after a rolled semi blocked all lanes of westbound Interstate 70. Armijos-Castillo was wanted by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office after a man was killed during a home invasion burglary the day after Christmas. A felony arrest warrant was issued Jan. 6. According to the U.S. Marshals Service, its investigators in Tampa contacted their counterparts in Denver on Jan. 22 with information that Armijos-Castillo was traveling by bus from Florida to California. When federal and state investigators realized the truck crash was delaying the bus, they notified Vail PD. Armijos-Castillo was taken into custody and booked into the Eagle County Jail on the Florida charges. All westbound lanes of the interstate were blocked by the tractor-trailer accident shortly after 3 p.m. "It was spectacularly effective at closing the road," quipped Town of Vail communication director Kris Widlak. The driver of the truck was not injured in the accident. But road crews worked into the evening to clean up the spilled cargo - beer - and clear the highway of wreckage. The U.S. Marshals Florida-Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force, U.S. Marshals Colorado Violent Offender Task Force, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Vail Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, and Manatee County Sheriff's Office were all involved in Armijos-Castillo's capture.
