Meteorologist Valerie Smock emceed Annual Memorial Day Parade in Dallas
DALLAS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — In Luzerne County, our very own meteorologist, Valerie Smock, and a veteran herself, emceed an Annual Memorial Day Parade in Dallas. Several nonprofit groups and state representatives attended Monday's event and walked the parade route. While emceeing, Valerie spoke about her time in the service and what Memorial Day means to her. Show of patriotism marks Memorial Day weekend in Wyoming 'Their sacrifice was not in vain. That is why we rise in their honor and continue fighting for liberty and justice. On Memorial Day, it's important to remember we are honoring our fallen,' Smock stated. The ceremony was then followed by the parade, where dozens of nonprofits, businesses, and veterans participated. Hundreds knocked down pins at Annual Rock ‘n' Radio Bowl
WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — First responders dealing with serious health issues are getting help from the community. Hundreds knocked down pins on Sunday at Chackos Family Bowling Center in Wilkes-Barre at the Third Annual Rock 'n' Radio Bowl. The fundraising event is hosted by Cumulus Media, which owns hundreds of radio stations, including WMGS Magic 93 and WBHT HOT 97.1. Part of the proceeds benefit Foundation 58, a Hazleton-based charity that helps firefighters, police, and emergency medical personnel affected by cancer. 28/22 Meterologist Valerie Smock speaks at Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick Women's Luncheon 'Our first responders do so much for the community at all times so to have them, to have the opportunity to say thank you in a way that's not just thank you with words and to do something that shows financially maybe to help those that need it it tugs the heartstrings I think,' said Cumulus Media Promotions Director Kara Hart. 'It's heartfelt. It's heartfelt to see people come out and support and benefit things like this and give back, and to charity. It's all love,' Retired Chief Paramedic with the Wilkes-Barre Fire Department Michael Stadulis explained.
