National dog club holds specialty & companion competition in South Sioux City
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — The Vizsla Club of America is holding its National Specialty & Companion events this week in South Sioux City.
The competition is taking place at the South Sioux City Marriott Riverfront from April 22 to April 26. Around 300 Vizsla dogs from around the world are participating in events. The show is free and open to the public.
Organizers said there are a few reasons why they decided to hold this year's event in Siouxland.
'We currently rotate between different areas. This year is our Central Division. (A) couple of years ago, we started looking for a spot that is easy for people to get to because they're coming from both coasts,' said Jill Hoffbeck, an event chair for the Vizslas Club of America. 'You guys have great restaurants around here, great hospitality, so it just really puts everything together. Great spot to work with.'

Club officials said the competition features many activities, such as Junior Showmanship, obedience, rally, educational events, agility, and Judge education.
Organizers said the event is a great way of introducing the public to the Vizsla dog breed.
'A lot of people will describe them as being Velcro. We call them Velcro Vizsla and they very much are, but they're also versatile, which is why this week is so exciting for everybody because they can do so much. Like, (Kaper) wants to go walking and do fun stuff. This is not their forte. He's actually starting to do therapy work and he's training for that. So they can do things like real humans, but they can also go and show that they know how to do sits and downs and heel in the show ring,' said Hoffbeck.
There's also an All-Star Review limited to Vizslas with Conformation Championship and either a Field Championship or Master Hunter title and more. The best-of-breed will be announced on April 26.
