Dakota Johnson in Diamond Hair Jewelry Is the Breakout Look of Cannes
Stephane Cardinale - Corbis/Getty Images Updo? Down-do? Slick-back? How you wear your hair is last year's question. What you wear in it is the opportunity du jour. Dakota Johnson proved as much when she stepped out for the Splitsville photocall at Cannes with a jewel tucked into her braid, immediately upping the accessory game for the entire festival. For the occasion, Johnson wore a simple black dress with a diamond clasp in the back, which perfectly matched the diamonds in her hair: the Avoine head jewel from Boucheron's Untamed Nature collection. It's made of white gold and paved in diamonds, naturally. Johnson also sported the Vendôme Liseré stud earrings and ring, from the Vendôme collection. On Instagram, her hairstylist Mark Townsend revealed that in addition to the jewels, Johnson's hair is secured by Day Rate Beauty pins. Kind of immediately obsessed with the flex of this look. On the surface, it's so simple: literally a little black dress. As other stars duke it out for the most attention-grabbing outfit, Johnson embraces minimalism, opting for natural makeup and unflashy accessories. Nothing to prove, cool girl, etc. Then she turns her head to show off the head jewel, subtly asking the question, 'Did no one else remember to bejewel their hair?' Suddenly everyone else is underdressed and only Johnson is appropriately fancy, kind of like the time Amal Clooney wore gloves to the Golden Globes and for a second everyone was like, Wait, should we all be wearing gloves? No? Should we cause an entire controversy about it? This is, incredibly, Dakota Johnson's first time at Cannes, though she's a regular at other fancy film festivals. When discussing what she expected from the experience, the star told Deadline, 'Somebody told me that people wear gowns and flip-flops and run into hotels…That sounds like something I'd love to do.' And yet, there's nary a gown, a flip, or a flop in sight as Johnson brings a new level of glam to the Croisette. Originally Appeared on Glamour
