In-charge of the vigilance team Inspector Dharmendra Tiwari said that based on Tiwari's complaint, a trap was laid to catch the superintendent red-handed.
As per the plan, Tiwari visited the CHC to hand over the chemically coated currency notes amounting to Rs 20,000. When Mauwar, who is a native of Aurangabad in Bihar, received the currency notes, members of the vigilance cell team caught him red-handed. Further legal action was being taken against him after taking him to Varanasi sector office.
The CHC superintendent came under radar of the vigilance cell, when Tiwari contacted its officials alleging that the official was demanding Rs 20,000 to release an approval letter for operating a Jan Aushadhi Kendra at the Bansdih CHC. He further alleged that the CHC superintendent was demanding Rs 20,000 on a monthly basis from Tiwari.
Tiwari had paid such amount in past months but refused to continue this payment due to low sales. However, as the superintendent kept pressurising him, he sought help from the vigilance cell.
Vigilance officials said that in cases of demanding bribes by any official of any govt department, complainants can seek help by dialling 9454401866.
