Then, the trailer shows a young girl getting scared by dolls floating in the air and a demon hides behind one of them. Lorraine feels that 'something is different." I mean, not really. He's reachable within seconds on text. But I'll miss him as a fun scene partner who totally understands my kind of neurology, who vibes with my brain in a way. I love that guy. I'm so blessed to have had him by my side. He made all of these life-zapping, exhausting exorcisms feel like a family barbecue." Wilson was emotional at the franchise ending. 'I think that's why when you say, 'Can you imagine it being over?' I actually can't imagine it really because of her. It really meant the world to me. I didn't think we'd be doing this for 12, 13 years. I only know this because I have a shirt from running a race in Wilmington. It says 2012, [which is] when we shot the first one. So, yeah, I get emotional. I can't imagine not doing a movie with her," he stated For The Conjuring: Last Rites, while Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are back in the lead roles, they will be joined by Mia Tomlinson and Ben Hardy, who play their daughter Judy Warren and her boyfriend Tony Spera. 'The Conjuring: Last Rites' First Trailer Released

The Conjuring Universe has grown to some surprising lengths since the first movie, titled The Conjuring , was released in 2013. With several sequels and additional spin-offs that act as about prequels and sequels, the brand has proven to be incredibly successful. Now the first trailer for The Conjuring: Last Rites – which is acting as a sort of conclusion to the saga – is available online. It's currently unclear what plans there are, if any, following the release of The Conjuring: Last Rites . As such, the film has so far been teased as the final installment to feature Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as Lorraine and Ed Warren, respectively. Though the title has also been suggested to only end the first 'phase' of the franchise, which could mean there is still plenty of other projects coming from the franchise in the future. In the meantime, however, we'll have to look towards the next installment we do know about – which had its first trailer released. Here's the trailer at The Conjuring: Last Rites : The film takes place five years after The Devil Made Me Do It , which was the third mainline entry in the Conjuring saga, which places Last Rites in 1986. Interestingly, the Warrens are retired in the film, with Patrick's character recovering from his heart attack suffered in the third film. Now they're pulled out of retirement to explore the Smurl family haunting which is based on the real-life case files of the Warrens. Hopefully this effort delivers on its promise of giving closure to the fans. And, if the time calls for it, perhaps an opening for a proper new phase of Conjuring films. As for now, though, The Conjuring: Last Rites looks like a fitting return to form for the mainline series. Fans will be able to see The Conjuring: Last Rites in theaters on September 5, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the highly-anticipated sequel – and the rest of the Conjuring horror movie franchise – as we have them. If the film is successful enough, we could see an entirely new phase of Conjuring -related media released.

THE CONJURING: LAST RITES Trailer Sends the Warrens into One Final Nightmare — GeekTyrant

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for The Conjouring: Last Rites . This is the final film in The Conjouring franchise that will feature Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga and as Ed and Lorraine Warren, and it looks like it will tell a terrifying story! The Conjuring: Last Rites 'delivers another thrilling chapter of the iconic Conjuring cinematic universe, based on real events. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson reunite for one last case as renowned, real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in a powerful and spine-chilling addition to the global box office-breaking franchise.' Set in 1986, five years after The Devil Made Me Do It , the Warrens are semi-retired, older, wearier, and grappling with Ed's worsening heart condition. This time around, the Warrens are drawn into one last case: the infamous Smurl family haunting. The Smurls, Janet and Jack (played by Rebecca Calder and Elliot Cowan), were reportedly plagued by a malevolent force that tormented their family, and the case became a national sensation. 'Janet and Jack Smurl moved their family into a duplex on Chase Street in West Pittston, Pa., in the 1970s. In the years that followed, the Smurls, including their young daughters and Jack's parents, claimed to experience supernatural occurrences ranging from strange odors and voices all the way to ghostly molestations.' The Smurls appeared on TV programs such as Larry King Live and Entertainment Tonight and 'made it one of the more publicized cases of supernatural activity, but it also gave skeptics ammunition to say they sold out for the public spotlight. The story became the subject of the book The Haunted: One Family's Nightmare (1986) and a 1991 made-for-TV movie starring Sally Kirkland.' Farmiga and Wilson star alongside Mia Tomlinson and Ben Hardy, who portray Ed and Lorraine's daughter Judy Warren and her boyfriend, Tony Spera, as well as Steve Coulter returning as Father Gordon, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Beau Gadsdon, John Brotherton and Shannon Kook. Franchise veteran Michael Chaves directs from a screenplay by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who came up with the story with James Wan. The movie will haunt theaters on September 5th.

The Conjuring: Last Rites Trailer Scares the Warrens Out of Business

Eventually, Ed and Lorraine Warren had to stop investigating supernatural activity. And, in the first trailer for The Conjuring: Last Rites, the basic premise is that this case was so, so bad, it was the reason they stopped. Now, how true that specifically is, we aren't quite sure. But the trailer for the fourth and final Conjuring film starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as the married investigators sure makes a compelling case. The plot isn't quite on fully display but, from the casting, it sure seems as if the evil demons the Warrens fight on a daily basis have finally come for their own family. In addition to Farmiga and Wilson, The Conjuring: Last Rites stars Mia Tomlinson as Ed and Lorraine's daughter Judy Warren and Ben Hardy as her boyfriend, Tony Spera. And if the demons are coming after Ed and Lorraine's kid, they are surely mighty pissed off about all the good they've been doing for humanity. There are terrors throughout the trailer, but the scariest thing might be that this is being sold as the final Conjuring film centering on the Warrens. Because let's not forget, it was the first two films in this series, The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2, that set the series up to be the most successful horror franchise in a modern history. The Conjuring films also gave us Annabelle and The Nun, both of which had their own sequels and continue to be lasting brands on their own. And while the third Conjuring film, The Devil Made Me Do It, wasn't quite as good as previous installments, you have to imagine everyone involved is going to go out with a bang this time around. The Conjuring: Last Rites is directed by Michael Chaves, who did Conjuring 3 and Nun 2, and once again produced by franchise architects James Wan and Peter Safran. It opens September 5. Here's the poster.

THE CONJURING: LAST RITES First Look Reveals a Haunting Farewell for the Warrens and New Details — GeekTyrant

The curtain is about to fall on one of horror's most beloved ghost-hunting duos. The Conjuring: Last Rites , the fourth and final film in the franchise, is set to hit theaters on September 5th, and thanks to new first-look photos and fresh insights from the cast and creators, we now have a much clearer picture of what to expect. If you've followed Ed and Lorraine Warren's terrifying journey since 2013, prepare yourself, because this one promises to be as emotional as it is chilling. Entertainment Weekly unveiled new images from the film, and a short tease is now circulating on social media, offering a glimpse at what's coming. This final chapter will feature a personal reckoning. Set in 1986, five years after The Devil Made Me Do It , the Warrens are semi-retired, older, wearier, and grappling with Ed's worsening heart condition. But as always in this universe, evil has no intention of letting them rest. Patrick Wilson joked, eflecting on Ed's long, exhausting battle with the paranormal: 'There's only so many times you can say, 'This is the worst case we've ever had!'' Vera Farmiga echoed the sentiment: 'My rosary literally busted apart. The beads were like, 'Girl, we're out of here!' I think we've done as much as we can do for this.' Wilson said: "Ed got pretty beat up in the third one, so I honestly didn't want to be on death's door for this movie. First of all, there's no reason to be — he lived another 25 years. But retirement was interesting to me. It was important to show the skeptics. We're not in the middle of Amityville, when [hauntings were] everywhere. What is it like when they're not playing to big crowds? What does that do to them?" Despite the exhaustion, both actors are clearly sentimental about closing this chapter, especially when it comes to each other. 'I'm going to miss Patrick most of all,' Farmiga admitted. 'I mean, not really. He's reachable within seconds on text. But I'll miss him as a fun scene partner who totally understands my kind of neurology… He made all of these life-zapping, exhausting exorcisms feel like a family barbecue.' Wilson added: 'I didn't think we'd be doing this for 12, 13 years… I get emotional. I can't imagine not doing a movie with her.' That chemistry between Wilson and Farmiga is something franchise co-creator James Wan has always viewed as the franchise's backbone. 'The beating heart of this franchise is Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson playing Ed and Lorraine,' Wan said. 'The family dynamic, the faith the characters have, and the faith that they have in each other are really the things that drive this particular franchise.' This time around, the Warrens are drawn into one last case: the infamous Smurl family haunting. If you've ever gone down a late-night paranormal Google rabbit hole, you might already be familiar. 'It is one of the more Googleable ones,' said producer Peter Safran. 'It really fit the bill for us, being able to lean into something that audiences could go and Google after the movie.' The Smurls, Janet and Jack (played by Rebecca Calder and Elliot Cowan), were reportedly plagued by a malevolent force that tormented their family, and the case became a national sensation. 'Janet and Jack Smurl moved their family into a duplex on Chase Street in West Pittston, Pa., in the 1970s. In the years that followed, the Smurls, including their young daughters and Jack's parents, claimed to experience supernatural occurrences ranging from strange odors and voices all the way to ghostly molestations.' The Smurls' sppeared on TV programs such as Larry King Live and Entertainment Tonight 'made it one of the more publicized cases of supernatural activity, but it also gave skeptics ammunition to say they sold out for the public spotlight. The story became the subject of the book The Haunted: One Family's Nightmare (1986) and a 1991 made-for-TV movie starring Sally Kirkland.' Also stepping into the spotlight is Judy Warren, now an adult played by Mia Tomlinson. Her boyfriend Tony Spera (Ben Hardy) is also introduced. Director Michael Chaves emphasized the emotional depth behind this version of Judy: 'What is it like when you are living with an artifact room that is filled with demonic items? How hard is that? What impact does that leave on a person's life?' Farmiga added, 'She's obviously inherited this spiritual sensitivity… Judy has been the quiet force right behind everything that Lorraine does. She's the light. She's the reason that Lorraine still fights when she feels like there's nothing left to give.' And while this movie brings all the demonic intensity you'd expect, the story leans more into existential themes. 'It's a moment that makes time stand still,' said Farmiga. 'This one's different than the others. The other three were about hauntings, and this one is about reckoning, in a way.' New images hint at younger versions of the Warrens (played by Orion Smith and Madison Lawlor), flashbacks, and eerie visions of twisted doppelgängers—grinning, warped versions of Ed and Lorraine. 'Whether it's dealing with mortality or dealing with where they are at the end of their career, you're forced to look in the mirror,' Wilson explained. 'Who's on the other side may not be the most pleasant. Those are themes we definitely explore.' While a Conjuring spin-off series is already in development for Max, Last Rites is the definitive swan song for Wilson and Farmiga's time in the cinematic spotlight. As Farmiga put it: 'It is the end of the road. It's got to be the end of the road… It is time to trade her clairvoyance in for crossword puzzles. She's going to take up some tai chi. They're going to Turks and Caicos, baby, and so am I.' The Conjuring: Last Rites opens September 5. Are you ready for one last ride with the Warrens?
