Where is Shane Vereen, Patriots Super Bowl hero who sold home to Drake Maye rival?

Remember Shane Vereen? The former New England Patriots running back was a Super Bowl hero (and tied for a record). He made a couple more NFL stops after leaving New England. Now, after some TV gigs, he's back in the NFL on the coaching side. Let's check in and see where Vereen is now. Where are former Patriots now? | Shane Vereen (2011-2014) These days, 36-year-old Vereen is living in Bellaire, Texas, just outside of Houston, with his wife and two daughters. Since last year, he's been working as a player personnel assistant for the Houston Texans. Advertisement Before that, Vereen was living in Castle Pines, Colorado. That was until 2024, when he sold the five-bedroom, seven-bath mansion for $4 million. The buyer? That would be Bo Nix, who was drafted No. 12 overall by the Denver Broncos – nine picks after the Patriots took Drake Maye. After a strong season, Nix remains a budding rival quarterback for Maye in the AFC. Vereen had multiple gigs as a TV analyst. After a year working with Fox Sports, Vereen spent roughly three years working as a college football analyst for the Pac-12 Network. It's not all football for Vereen. After retiring in Vereen got involved with Esports. In 2019, he joined ESTV (Esports Television) along with his brother, Brock, who also played in the NFL. Vereen is currently listed the director of business development for ESTV's Celebrity League. Advertisement Vereen had a quiet start to the NFL after leading in New England as a second-round pick in 2011. However, his role in the Patriots offense slowly began to grow as he developed as a pass-catching back. By 2013, he'd made a major leap, ranking third on the team with 47 receptions. The following year, he caught 52 passes for 447 yards. He's best remembered for his performance in Super Bowl XLIX. Against the Seattle Seahawks, Vereen had a monster game catching passes out of the backfield with 11 receptions, which tied the Super Bowl record at the time. That mark has since been broken by Demaryius Thomas (13) and James White (14) Vereen's contributions came mostly as a pass-catcher. His best season as a runner came in 2014, when he got 96 carries for 391 yards. Advertisement After winning a championship in New England, Vereen signed a deal with the New York Giants in free agency. Vereen had a solid start in New York catching a career-high 59 passes in 2015. He was limited by injuries in 2016 before bouncing back in 2017, making 44 receptions. That year marked the last time Vereen appeared in an NFL game. In 2018, Vereen signed a deal with the New Orleans Saints, but was released with an injury settlement before the season began. NYPD's teenage ‘Commissioner for a Day' is on a mission to end deadly subway surfing through social media

He wants to stop subway surfing dead in its tracks! A bright Bronx teenager who won the NYPD's annual 'Commissioner for a Day' award Wednesday is on a mission to end deadly subway surfing through social media, he told The Post. Carmelo Vereen, 18, was given the honorary role after penning an essay on how to 'deter young people' from the daredevil stunt, which has killed 14 New Yorkers in the past two years. Advertisement 'Kids are subway surfing as young as 11, so their minds aren't really fully comprehending what they're doing,' Vereen, an 11th grader at the Urban Assembly Bronx Academy of Letters, told The Post. 'Social media is one of the ways that subway surfing has gained a huge popularity. It's one of the [reasons] why people are doing it now,' he said. The same tool should be used to 'dismantle it' and 'make it seem as not cool a trend,' he said. Advertisement For the contest, the Police Athletic League posed the essay question, 'As Police Commissioner, what steps would you take with MTA officials to prevent and deter young people from participating in 'subway surfing?'' Vereen, center, said social media and other forms of education could help stop subway surfing. Gregory P. Mango Vereen — who eventually wants to become a police officer himself — begins his essay with a bold statement about the growing trend, which involves riding on top of moving trains. 'When a 14-year-old died subway surfing in 1996, former Mayor Giuliani said this: 'There is no way that you can protect a child who decides to surf on top of a subway car.' ' Advertisement 'However, I disagree with that,' he writes. Vereen wants to eventually become a police officer. Gregory P. Mango He goes on to recommend a 'TrendStat' program that would track and flag online posts that glamorize subway surfing with the goal of getting them taken down. In the essay, the clever teen also pushes for cops to use youth programs that bring the survivors of subway surfing and families 'who lost loved ones' together to educate young folks about the dangerous trend. Advertisement During a ceremony at One Police Plaza Wednesday, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch praised Vereen's ideas. 'Your essay rose to the top. And it wasn't just because of how well you wrote. It was the way that you thought,' she said. 'You approached it with empathy, with depth, and with the understanding that no one agency can solve any problem alone.' Along with the honorary title, Vereen was also awarded $500 cash and a chance to spend the day with some of the city's top cops, according to PAL New York.
