'He was visibly emotional': What PM Modi told kin of Pahalgam attack victim Shubham Dwivedi
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday had an emotional meeting with the family of Shubham Dwivedi, a 31-year-old businessman who was among those killed in the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, while visiting Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur. PM Modi, while meeting the Shubham's family at Kanpur Airport, offered his condolences and assured full government support. According to Shubham's wife, PM Modi told the family that the fight against terrorism is for a long haul and will continue. "He (the Prime Minister) offered his condolences and said he stands with the entire family. He said it not just on his behalf, but on behalf of the entire nation. He came here to give his heartfelt condolences, and throughout the time he spoke with us, he kept saying that the entire country is standing with us. He was visibly emotional—you could see it in his expressions. He even came up to my father, placed a hand on his shoulder, and said, "We are all with you," Shubham's wife said. "The first thing he said was that the fight against terrorism is going to be long, and it will go on," she added. During the meeting, Shubham's wife also told the prime minister that terrorists are trying to divide India on religious lines. "I told him that they were trying to divide us on religious lines. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en America (ver precio) Verisure Undo I didn't have to say directly that they were killing based on religion—everyone already knew that. I said that those Pakistani terrorists came and asked us our religion before killing us. They wanted to divide us internally between Hindus and Muslims," she said. "He said we will meet again, and we'll continue the conversation or whatever steps are needed going forward," she added. The meeting comes after a request was made to Kanpur MP Ramesh Awasthi, who promptly wrote to the Prime Minister's Office seeking time for the grieving family. Shubham, who had recently married on February 12, was visiting Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam with his wife and sister-in-law when terrorists opened fire on unarmed tourists. He was shot in the head and died on the spot. A total of 26 people, including one Nepali national, were killed in the attack. Since his death, Shubham's family has been appealing to the government for him to be recognised as a martyr. 'Our son was tragically killed in a terrorist attack… targeted simply for being a Hindu,' a family member was quoted as saying by ANI. 'We sincerely hope that, during his visit, the Prime Minister will announce that Shubham will be officially honoured as a martyr.'

Mass marriage a strong step against dowry, says CM Yogi
Gorakhpur: Over 1,200 couples tied the knot under the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana in a grand ceremony held on the premises of Hindustan Fertilizer Plant in Gorakhpur on Monday. It was the first such event since the state govt raised the financial assistance to Rs 1 lakh per couple. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who personally blessed the newlyweds, said that a good govt ensures prosperity by focusing on the welfare of the poor. "The Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana reflects the govt's vision to empower the underprivileged while challenging social evils like dowry, child marriage, and polygamy," he said. Under the revised scheme, Rs 60,000 is directly transferred to the bride's account while the remaining amount covers essentials like household items and wedding arrangements. The CM noted that this initiative, in line with PM Modi's welfare policies, benefits couples from all castes and religions, following their customs. Wishing the newlyweds a prosperous and happy life during the event, Yogi reiterated that the govt will continue to work towards empowering every family. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Berisso (ver precio) Verisure Undo "Dowry is one such outdated practice, and the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana is a strong step against it," he said. The CM also highlighted other flagship schemes like Kanya Sumangala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, and Matru Vandana Yojana, stating that 24 lakh girls in UP have already benefited from Kanya Sumangala alone. Yogi said the double-engine government has lifted 6 crore people in UP out of multidimensional poverty, while 80 crore citizens are receiving free rations. He emphasized the importance of educating daughters and creating a supportive ecosystem for youth through schemes like Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Yojana. Calling it an honour to participate in the sacred act of kanyadaan, the CM gifted 'Shagun Kits' to select couples and showered petals on the newlyweds. The event also saw the presence of several local MLAs, MPs, and BJP leaders.

Nushrratt Bharuccha says she didn't like her Pyaar Ka Punchnama characters but would play them again: 'I had my own fight with the writers'
Nushrratt Bharuccha may have become a household name with Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety in 2018, but her journey with director Luv Ranjan began much earlier with 2011's Pyaar Ka Punchnama. Though these films were commercially successful and gave her considerable recognition, they've often been called out for being misogynistic. Now, in a candid new interview, Nushrratt says she didn't particularly like the characters she played—but she would still do those roles again. 'Even then I was not happy, I said no to the films' In a conversation with Yuvaa, Nushrratt was asked if she felt her characters in Pyaar Ka Punchnama and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety were well represented. She admitted, 'Even then I was not happy. I said no to the films.' When asked if she was okay with 'how the girl was represented,' the actress replied, 'I have no problem with it, absolutely not. I would do it again in a heartbeat and love what I am doing.' She added that despite her initial hesitation and ongoing arguments with the filmmakers about the character motivations, she enjoyed playing Neha, Cheeku, and Sweety. 'Even though all three were very far from who I am, very unrelatable to me… I had my own fight with the writers and the director—'How do I do this? I am not convinced why she is doing this or being this way.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Buenos Aires (ver precio) Verisure Undo That was my battle. But did I have fun doing it? I loved it. ' 'It was comedy, we never said all women are like that' Addressing the backlash these films received, Nushrratt explained that they were never meant to be taken as a generalisation of women. 'That was a comedy film. We showed three girls who were a certain way. We didn't say all girls are like this,' she clarified. Interestingly, she also said that she personally did not like the films or her own characters but appreciated the experience nonetheless. 'Even though I didn't like the film, I didn't like my character personally, I really enjoyed playing it and I would do it again because I can't judge a character. I am not supposed to judge it,' she said. She also added that perhaps another filmmaker should make a similar film from a female perspective. Nushrratt Bharuccha Spotted at Mumbai Airport in Easy Ethnic Look 'Girls would ask me to recite the monologue—it wasn't a compliment' Nushrratt shared a surprising anecdote about how many women approached her to hear the now-iconic Pyaar Ka Punchnama monologue. 'The number of girls that have personally said, 'Ek baar monologue suna do.' What will you tell them? I used to be shocked looking at the girls—'You know this is not in your praise.' 'Yes yes, but please say it once,'' she recalled. The actress added that she personally wouldn't want to hear the monologue again, but they made the film for the audience that appreciated it. 'They were the ones who spent money on it,' she said. Nushrratt Bharuccha was last seen in Chhorii 2.
