Vermillion County Board of Commissioners invite students to join
VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Vermillion County Board of Commissioners has a new initiative for students.
The Junior County Commissioners' program is a chance for students to have a say in planning the county's future. County commissioners created the program to get advice and ideas from students on everything from parks and rec to entertainment and festivals to social issues. This will also give students a chance to learn about how the government operates and how they can make an impact in their community.
'Our youth is our future, so you know when we get these young students involved and hearing their ideas, this is their place they're going to grow up and live in, so we can't wait to have them here,' said Vermillion County Commissioner R.J. Dunavan. 'We can't wait to see them get sworn in and hopefully have some heated discussions between them, and they maybe get a glimpse of what it's like being in the public world.'
Three students in grades nine through twelve will be chosen from North and South Vermillion High Schools. The program will be implemented in August.
