Free travel for military personnel and veterans on VE Day Stagecoach East is offering free travel to military personnel, veterans, and cadets on VE Day. This initiative is in honour of the 80th anniversary of VE Day, which marks the end of the Second World War in Europe. The free travel will be available on Thursday, May 8, across all Stagecoach East services in Suffolk and surrounding areas. Eligible individuals include those in uniform or carrying a military ID, veterans with a badge or medal, and cadets in uniform. The initiative is supported by Stagecoach's employee-led Veterans Network, which aims to unite colleagues with shared experiences and drive positive change within the company. ADVERTISEMENT Darren Roe, managing director of Stagecoach East, said: "We're incredibly proud to employ many veterans, and it's a privilege to recognise the bravery and dedication of our Armed Forces, cadets, and veterans. "Offering free travel on VE 80 Day is a small gesture of appreciation for the enormous contribution made by our service men and women, past and present." The offer excludes services operated by Megabus, TfL, and the Bee Network.

Stagecoach is offering free bus travel to serving military, veterans, and cadets in Cumbria on VE Day. The bus operator is providing the service across Barrow, Carlisle, Kendal and The Lakes, Lancaster, West Cumbria, and surrounding areas. This year marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day, which commemorates the end of World War II in Europe on May 8, 1945. The initiative is designed to allow them to attend VE Day events and commemorations in the area. The initiative is backed by Stagecoach's employee-led Veterans Network. Mark Blacklock, a Stagecoach driver from Egremont and veterans' champion for Stagecoach's Lillyhall Depot at West Cumbria, served with the Royal Navy from 2000 to 2011. "For those that came home to loved ones and those that didn't. "Back then people were being drafted for service and some had no choice but to serve. "I had a choice and wanted to serve my country and the military made me the man I am today." Stagecoach has been a member of the Armed Forces Covenant since March 2015, which aims to recognise the value of serving military, regular and reservists, veterans, and military families to both the country and businesses across the country. The offer is being made available to all military and ex-military, excluding services operated by Megabus, TfL, and the Bee Network. Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire operates a fleet of 330 buses, serving communities across Barrow, Carlisle, Kendal and The Lakes, Lancaster, West Cumbria, and surrounding areas.
