Around 10 p.m. last Tuesday, Instagram user @thelilruffhouse heard alarming barks coming from the fenced-in yard. Her husband and she rushed outside to find the cause of the noise, which is when they discovered four of the family's dachshunds had been bitten by a copperhead snake outside their Texas home. "I knew immediately they had something like a snake or possum because they get this shrill, excited bark, which is why I immediately closed the doggie door, and when my dogs hear that snap, they are trained to come inside," the owner told Newsweek via Instagram. "I ran outside with a flashlight and Cricket alerted to where the little copperhead was. My husband came out and killed it." Almost immediately, their small dog Cora started throwing up and having a reaction, she said. Alarm bells went off in her head. She knew her dog had been bitten. "And Foxy was swelling up in the muzzle, and Cleo ran under my desk and tried to bury under the beds, so I knew she was bitten too," she said. Meanwhile, Cricket wouldn't stop barking until the owners knew where the snake was hiding, coiled up along the fence. From there, everything happened quickly, the owner wrote in the June 22 Instagram video posted to the account @thelilruffhouse. Cleo and Foxy's muzzles became swollen. Cricket, the one who alerted the owners, showed slight swelling and glassy eyes. The couple rushed the dogs to the emergency vet, where they received the news that Cora was lucky to be alive. It came down to a heartbreaking reality: try initial lifesaving measures, but if she started to suffer or rapidly decline, they would need to let her pass as peacefully and painlessly as possible. Three of the dogs have recovered, but Cora's treatment is more detailed. She received two rounds of antivenom, and two pages worth of medications and treatments within the first 24 hours. The team treated her for anaphylactic shock, an allergic reaction most commonly caused by foods, insect stings, snake bites, medications or vaccinations, an article from Veterinary Partner reported. "Cora will need a follow-up bloodwork after she's completed the 30 days of Denamarian liver support supplement," the owner said. Viewer Reactions Within four days of posting, the TikTok video reached over 211,000 views and 8,513 likes. Viewers collectively sighed with relief knowing the dogs were looking up. "I'm so glad the babies are okay," wrote one user. Another added: "Omg, so sorry for all of you, this is terrifying. So happy they're all on the mend." A third echoed: "Those poor babies. I pray they are feeling better today. So much pain."

Owner Sends Puppy to Doggy Day Care To 'Socialize,' Then Checks the Camera
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A dog owner who wanted to help her puppy socialize, sent him to day care to be with other pups. When she checked the camera, she realized her plan didn't work. In a viral Instagram video shared in May under the username @wolfdendiaries, the poster says, "Me sending my dog to day care to socialize and make friends since he is so people obsessed," as footage of her cute puppy plays in the background. "Meanwhile my dog at day care," she continues, showing footage recorded by the day care camera showing the little puppy enjoying his time with a carer, who picks him up and snuggles him. "Maybe next time, so happy the workers were so kind and welcoming to him though!!! I literally was just watching him on the camera the entire time having separation anxiety," she wrote in the caption. Socializing a puppy is not just about teaching them how to make friends. Exposure to other canines also helps them accept everything around them and react without fear, according to Veterinary Partner. The medical website says that socialization is especially important for animals who are orphans, because the lack of interaction with their mother and siblings has left them without basis as to how to behave around others. The best time for socialization is between 3 and 14 weeks of age. The experiences they learn during this key period of socialization will shape the way they will act around others in the future. Socialization is important because social dogs get more exercise and have more fun. They are also easier to groom, and handle exams by veterinarians more easily. They also tend to have less fear and anxiety, and are less prone to aggression. Stock photo: A small puppy stands near a crate playing with toys. One user, Mermaid8dreamz, commented: "If I saw a puppy like this … I'd hold them the whole time too." Gabblt25 posted: "My pup goes to doggy day care and only interacts/sits next to/follows the employees … I have never seen him even interact with another dog." Mingo3916 added: "Mine sits up at the front desk and 'helps' them work." Newsweek reached out to @wolfdendiaries for comment via Instagram comments. We could not verify the details of the case.
