Paws for Help: SUNY Canton's Veterinary Program assists in dog rescue

CANTON, N.Y. (WWTI) – The SUNY Canton Veterinary Science Technology Program is caring for and treating numerous dogs who were taken into custody by St. Lawrence County law enforcement because of an animal cruelty investigation, according to the college. SUNY Canton says the project is a collaboration between the college and the St. Lawrence County District Attorney's office. Five dogs are now under the care of Veterinary Science Technology Program instructors and students and three are available for adoption. The world's most famous sled dog race is longer than ever. Here's a look at Iditarod, by the numbers 'Students are in charge of the daily feeding, walking and any medication administration for the dogs, which are housed in our kennel facility in the Newell Veterinary Science Technology Center building,' said Veterinary Science Technology Program Director Dr. Wendy Kuceyeski. 'They will also assist in anesthetic monitoring during spay and neuter procedures that are done by our faculty.' Kuceyeski mentioned that there are two Great Pyrenees mixed breeds available for adoption, as well as one Great Pyrenees/Pit Bull crossbred. 'We are proud to assist the District Attorney's Office and the community in caring for these animals until they are able to find loving homes,' Kuceyeski added. 'I want to thank SUNY Canton and the Veterinary Science Technology Program for providing services imperative to ensuring the health and welfare of these rescued animals,' said St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary Pasqua.
