Medical drama 'Tiger Country' to peel back lid on profession
York Actors Collective is set to perform 'Tiger Country' at Theatre@41 Monkgate.
The doctors and nurses drama borrows its title from a piece of surgical terminology: when a surgeon operates near a big blood vessel, they are in dangerous territory, and the warning might be issued: 'Careful, you're approaching tiger country!'
The play explores professionalism, prejudice, staff romances, ambition, and failure within an overburdened health service.
The cast includes Victoria Delaney, Madusha Ferdinando, Clare Halliday, Mick Liversidge, Xandra Logan, Laurence O'Reilly, Chris Pomfrett, and Lucinda Rennison.
Several of the cast members work in the health service themselves.
Director Angie Millard said: "We consulted with a medical advisor and resus officer to help the team learn how to manage procedures.
"They were also shown how to mime stitching, draining a lung, and general examination techniques.
" I don't think anyone realised how tricky it all is."
'Tiger Country' originally premiered at Hampstead Theatre in London in 2011, and was revived at the same theatre in 2014.
The play will be performed at Theatre@41 Monkgate from May 27 to May 31.
Performances will be at 7.30pm from Tuesday to Friday, while on Saturday, performances will be at 2.30pm and at 6pm.
