Nagpur: The 2024-25 academic session concluded on Friday, with
final examinations
finishing across Maharashtra in state board affiliated schools. While students begin their summer holiday from April 26, teaching staff shall continue to report till mid-May, due to other responsibilities.
Milind Wankhede, founder-president of
Vidarbha Prathmik Shikshak Sangh
, said, "Educational authorities have mandated that schools must provide academic support and mid-day meals to attending pupils through April 30. Primary school teachers must work until May 9, while secondary school staff will continue until May 14. This will help teachers to complete administrative duties and prepare for next term."
Schools must provide 220 instructional days yearly, ensuring 800 teaching hours for Class 1 to 5 (excluding examinations) and 1,000 hours for Class 6 onwards. The Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) altered the schedule this year, moving final examinations from early April to mid-April, concluding on April 25.
As the academic year ends on April 25, schools will release annual results on May 1. Staff will continue school activities, including recruitment efforts for the next session. Wankhede said, "Declining enrolment in govt and aided schools threatens teaching positions. Every school must try to increase student numbers by 10% before the new term starts on June 26."
