Generative Video Pioneer Vidu Powers Honor 400 Series & Reimagines Journey to the West to Forge Blueprint for Next-Gen Original AI Studio

TOKYO, June 9, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Vidu, the flagship product of ShengShu Technology and a leader in generative video, has launched two strategic initiatives that redefine creative production. A partnership with Honor to embed its advanced image-to-video AI technology into the Honor 400 Series smartphones, and a landmark IP deal with the epic 1999 Journey to the West anime. Together, these moves ignite the "smartphone-studio era", transforming consumer-grade devices into AI-powered creative hubs, while positioning generative platforms as engines for cultural IP origination. This accelerates Vidu's development of a proprietary IP catalog, reshaping ownership models and creative possibilities in the generative video landscape. Honor: Cinema-Grade Production in Every Hand The Honor 400 Series (launched May 28, 2025) integrates Vidu's multimodal Image-to-Video AI feature, enabling professional-grade video generation directly on consumer devices. Users instantly transform static images into cinematic videos, erasing traditional barriers between studio production and daily creativity as technology evolves from a "tool" to a seamlessly integrated "intelligent life companion." This leap, powered by Vidu's breakthrough in real-time, mobile-optimized processing, overcomes historical computational limits and shatters the bottleneck of high-load computing on smartphones. "In an AI landscape dominated by giants, our partnership with Honor validates a core belief: true innovation thrives," said Luo Yihang, CEO at ShengShu Technology. "Vidu's mobile-optimized architecture overcoming historical bottlenecks to deliver cinematic video generation on consumer devices, transforms smartphones from passive tools into proactive creative partners. This collaboration isn't just about technological integration, it's about democratizing studio-grade storytelling and redefining how humanity interacts with intelligent systems." Reimagining Iconic Cultural Intellectual Property for Modern Audiences Vidu is pioneering the long-term value of IP through co-creation, securing rights and embracing a cultural legacy. This marks a generative AI evolution, setting a blueprint for next-gen original content studios. Announced today at Vidu's Tokyo Global Talents Meetup, its Journey to the West partnership empowers the community to reimagine the legendary Monkey King -- a character whose influence spans from opera to Dragon Ball Z and 2024's Black Myth: Wukong, transforming the classic into a dynamic canvas for a timeless IP. As the feature rolls out on Vidu over the next several months, users will be able to upload a single photo of themselves and enjoy creatively reinterpreting the Monkey King through a modern lens. Vidu analyzes the photo and applies the distinct aesthetic of the 1999 'Journey to the West' anime art style to the user's likeness with high fidelity. The user can then select from a curated list of engaging, pre-defined plotline templates or scenarios that will result in a 16 second personalized video segment. For instance, in one template, Sun Wukong (The Monkey King) is conjuring many little monkeys to help with his chores. But he can be made to humorously interact with your digital likeness at the same time, and affix believable generated voiceovers and background music to the clip. "We're incredibly excited not only about this partnership, but about what it represents for the future of IP," said Luo Yihang, CEO at ShengShu Technology. "For the first time, generative AI isn't just powering creativity behind the scenes, but it's becoming a vehicle for ownership, worldbuilding, and reimagining beloved stories. Only now, with Vidu, we're proving that generative video platforms can do more than generate content. Vidu is building for creative co-ownership through strategic partnerships or even future acquisitions, which can help shape the next generation of cultural IPs." Vidu's Bold Moves to Ink Deals and Roll Out New Models These announcements follows the recent launch of Vidu's Q1 model, which introduced features that rival cinematic-grade visual effects. These include its First-to-Last Frame technology for seamless transitions between realistic and animated sequences, and industry-first AI sound effects that deliver high fidelity 48 kHz audio. In parallel, Vidu formed a strategic partnership with Lenovo to deploy its models across Lenovo hardware, advancing its push into consumer and professional ecosystems. And the company also secured a content deal to produce an AI animated series in partnership with Luo Yan and D.T. Carpenter's Aura Prods. Global Momentum Builds at Tokyo Meetup Vidu's Global Talents Meetup at J. F. Oberlin University showcased real impact. A Tokyo student noted, "Vidu allows me to create animation studio-quality clips alone. I'm even considering it for my graduation project." Independent animator Rou Shu Te Xiao and his Observer Paradox animation, made with Vidu, hit more than 3 million views by blending authentic Japanese aesthetics with cinematic detail. About ShengShu Technology Founded in March 2023, ShengShu Technology is a world-leading artificial intelligence company, specializing in the development of Multimodal Large Language Models. India's Creative Leap: What Vidu's Japan Success Signals

In the age of reels, regional OTT, and creator-led storytelling, India's demand for high-quality video content is exploding. But producing standout visuals at scale and with local flair still poses a major challenge for many creators, startups, and media houses – especially those on a budget. Enter Vidu, the AI video generation platform that's taking the global content industry by storm. After rapidly gaining traction in Asia, with growing interest and its launch in the Japan market, a notoriously detail-obsessed and culturally complex region, Vidu is now exploring new markets like India — and the timing couldn't be better. From Tokyo to Tiruchirappalli: AI That Understands Culture In just two years, Vidu has grown into one of the world's leading AI-powered video creation platforms. What sets it apart? Its uncanny ability to adapt content to the aesthetic, emotional, and cultural nuances of local markets. Japan proved to be a major proving ground. There, Vidu earned widespread praise from animation studios, marketers, and tech platforms for its ability to generate high-quality 2D anime content, localise cross-cultural visuals, and match the country's high creative standards. In a recent Global Creator Conference hosted in Tokyo, Vidu showcased how its technology reduces video production time by 80–90%, all while preserving artistic intent and cultural depth. If it can win over Japan's famously exacting creators, it has a major shot in India. Why India Is Next India's digital economy is driven by a unique mix of mass-market platforms, hyperlocal creators, and mobile-first consumers. The volume of content being produced is staggering, but quality and scalability remain pain points, especially for smaller teams and regional businesses. Vidu offers a solution: creators can generate cinematic-grade videos from just a single photo or prompt. Whether you're a Kannada YouTuber, a Gujarati jewellery brand, or a Malayalam film studio, Vidu empowers you to create compelling content faster, with less overhead, and with culturally appropriate visual styles. Its AI engine can seamlessly adapt to regional aesthetics, from classical dance forms and temple art to street fashion and festival colour palettes, allowing creators to tell authentic, localized stories at scale. Case Studies That Speak Volumes Globally, Vidu's results speak for themselves. For Marvel's Venom: The Last Dance, Vidu generated a full promotional video in the style of Chinese ink painting — cutting a production cycle of nearly two months down to just 10 days, and slashing post-production costs by 90%. In e-commerce, an Amazon seller used Vidu to create over 300 videos in a single day, boosting click-through rates to 12.5% and more than doubling conversions. That kind of performance is a dream scenario for India's D2C brands, who face rising competition and shrinking attention spans. Entertainment platforms using Vidu's templates have reported up to 400% increases in user engagement. For Indian OTTs and mobile-first content platforms, this kind of boost could be game-changing. Beyond a Tool, Vidu is a Global Creative Platform But Vidu isn't just another AI platform. It's positioning itself as a new kind of infrastructure for the global creator economy. Shengshu Technology is now partnering with top universities in Japan, Europe, and the U.S. to explore how AI can support visual storytelling, media arts education, and next-gen content design. There's growing interest in bringing these collaborations to India too, where institutions like FTII, NID, and IITs are already experimenting with AI in creative education. The goal? Equip the next generation of Indian storytellers with AI tools that enhance, but not replace, their creative voice. The Road Ahead Vidu's success in Japan proves that generative AI when done right can elevate and amplify local creative expression, not flatten it. In India, where every state has its own cinematic language, visual identity, and digital culture, that kind of adaptability is essential. As India looks to solidify its position as a global content powerhouse, tools like Vidu could be the bridge between regional stories and global platforms, allowing every creator to compete with the best in the world.

China's Sora-like Vidu breaks into Hollywood with deal to produce GenAI anime series

A Chinese text-to-video generation start-up said it has signed a deal with a US animation studio to produce an artificial intelligence (AI) generated anime series, in the latest example of Hollywood moving to embrace this fast-developing technology. Vidu, a Sora-like AI model developed by Chinese AI firm ShengShu Technology and Tsinghua University, has formed a "strategic partnership" with Aura Productions, an American studio founded by Chinese-American actress Luo Yan and creative director D.T. Carpenter, according to a statement from ShengShu. The partners will launch a 50-episode short science-fiction anime series on "mainstream global social media platforms" in 2025. The first trailer for this series will be released globally in the coming days, it said. Do you have questions about the biggest topics and trends from around the world? Vidu 2.0, unveiled in January, claims the ability to generate high-quality videos in just 10 seconds. The production deal will leverage Vidu's "multi-subject consistency" feature to "blend Asian anime elements with Hollywood creativity" to create works that "resonate with young North American audiences", according to the statement. Vidu was used to generate a Chinese trailer for the 2024 film Venom: The Last Dance. Separately, last September Baidu's large model platform Qianfan integrated Vidu into its platform. ShengShu also teamed up with the China unit of US AI chipmaker AMD to help in "accelerating the launch of AI personal computer applications", according to a press release issued in March 2024. The partnership with Aura Productions is the first project since ShengShu Technology poached Luo Yihang from ByteDance, the owner of TikTok. Luo, the former head of AI solutions at ByteDance's cloud unit Volcano Engine, joined the start-up as chief executive to oversee research and development, product management, commercialisation and team management. Luo and Aura founder Luo Yan are not related. Luo Yihang said on Monday that he expected the new collaboration to "further push the boundaries of anime production".
