Tomah commemorates the Vietnam War turning 50
TOMAH, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – April 30th marks 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War. Earlier this year, Vietnam Veterans in the Coulee Region were honored for their service to our country. First News at Nine's Dashal Mentzel was there to highlight the ceremony that was full of thanks for the men and women who fought overseas. FOX 25/48 will also commemorate the anniversary of the Vietnam War coming to an end by airing a couple of 2-hour-long specials highlighting stories from veterans and those impacted by the conflict. The first special, Vietnam: A Lost Generation, will air on May 1st from 6 to 7 pm. Reflecting on the Vietnam War: Don Dare shares memories 50 years after fall of Saigon
(WATE) — April 30, 2025, marks 50 years since the Fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War. As we reflect on the war's lasting impact, 6 News anchors Lori Tucker and Bo Williams sat down with 6 On Your Side reporter Don Dare to talk about his time serving in the United States Army during the war. In 1968, Dare qualified for Army Officer Candidate School. He was assigned to that television division at Fort Gordon in 1969 and served there for nearly 18 months before he was sent to Vietnam. He would go home in 1972, three years before the Fall of Saigon. He shared what it was like in Vietnam and about his role in the Signal Corps. Behind the Scenes of 'Vietnam: A Lost Generation' 'It doesn't matter what you did. This is something that I found out. I joined the Vietnam Veterans of America in the early 1990s, and one of the men who was the president had a chest full of ribbons, bravery, and it's you said it doesn't matter what you did, you were there and that's all that matters,' said Dare. Dare also spoke with two East Tennessee veterans, including Bill Robinson, one of the longest-held enlisted POWs in history, about the end of the war. Veterans Voices: Hear the stories of those who served In addition, 6 News' parent company sent journalists to accompany veterans returning to Vietnam and confronting the painful and formative memories of their youth. What resulted is a two-part special on the Vietnam War commemorating the fall of Saigon 50 years ago. Baton Rouge summit tackles gender pay gap and equity issues
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The 2025 Pay Equity Summit is a two-day event that empowers women to demand equitable pay, amplify their voices, and build generational wealth. The event is hosted by the Baton Rouge chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. Organizers said reports show women in 2025 still earn only 82 cents for every dollar men make, and that the wage gap widens to just 72 cents for women over 45. The summit will offer strategic networking opportunities for women at all stages of their careers. Admission is free, but registration is required for each event. The summit will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at Citizens Bank, 5700 Florida Blvd. The Friday event will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Reimagine Women's Center, 7600 Airline Hwy. With graduations coming up, LPSS reminds visitors of security measures

Construction wrapping up on Front Street railroad bridge
BINGHAMTON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – After years of the mayor asking for its removal, an old, rusting railroad bridge in Binghamton is getting replaced. Construction is wrapping up on the new railroad bridge at Front Street and Clinton Streets in Binghamton. The railroad belongs to Norfolk Southern, who committed to repairing the bridge after a city report indicated the bridges were in deplorable condition. The report, which came out in 2023, found a majority of Binghamton's railroad bridges were in poor to severe condition. Last week, drivers had to follow detours, but now, traffic should be back to normal.
