Victim loses Rs 37 lakh in online scam
Mangaluru: A victim fell prey to an online stock market scam and reportedly lost Rs 37.5 lakh. The victim reportedly received a WhatsApp voice call from a person, who identified herself as Divya Sha, claiming to represent Interactive Brookers.
She provided information about investing in the share market to earn profits and mentioned that their senior head, Mayank Sinha, would provide training in a WhatsApp group called Vijay Path Club 231. The complainant's mobile number was then added to this group. Training was provided three times daily on how to earn profits in the share market.
The complainant started with an investment of Rs 1,000, and from April 18 to May 29, allegedly transferred a total of Rs 37.5 lakh to various bank accounts provided by the unknown persons via RTGS and IMPS.
The app showed a total of Rs 1,29,71,675.41, including profits.
In the following days, when the complainant attempted to withdraw the invested money from the app, the unknown person insisted on paying 20% tax and investing more money. This raised the complainant's suspicion. A case has been filed in CEN crime police station.
