"Agriculture remains backbone of Indian economy": Shivraj Singh Chouhan hails Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan

New Delhi [India], May 31 (ANI): Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday hailed Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, saying that under this campaign, demand-driven research will be done on the basis of feedback coming from the village. 'I congratulate our scientist.... Now, research will not be done sitting in Delhi. Demand-driven research will be done based on feedback coming from the village. Agriculture remains the backbone of the Indian economy... This growth rate results from policy changes by PM Modi, his vision, and the hard work of the farmers,' he said. Earlier, Chouhan launched the 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan' from Sakhigopal of Puri district, Odisha, today. This historic initiative, launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), is a concrete step towards transforming Indian agriculture and securing the food future of the country through scientific innovation and grassroots participation. During the 15-day campaign, Chouhan will travel to about 20 states. State governments will play a key role in realising this mission, and all states are expected to make this campaign a success through collective ownership and dedication. This campaign will be organised in more than 700 districts from 29 May to 12 June 2025. 731 KVKs, 113 ICAR institutes, state-level departments and officials of agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries and innovative farmers will participate in this campaign. Through this campaign, an effort has been made to add a strong chapter towards the resolution of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a Vikashit Bharat. 'Agriculture has traditionally been a state subject in our country. Each state formulates its own agricultural policies and takes steps in the interest of its farmers. But in today's rapidly changing times, there is a need to bring comprehensive reforms to Indian agriculture. Our farmers have filled food reserves by producing record yields. However, markets are evolving, and consumer preferences are changing,' PM Modi said via video conference during the launch of Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan. 'Therefore, this is a humble effort to bring about changes in the agricultural system by working together with farmers and state governments. The goal is to modernise Indian agriculture, and for that, this campaign aims to initiate direct discussions with farmers. Under this campaign, our teams of scientists are taking the concept of 'lab to land' forward in a major way. They will provide farmers with modern agricultural knowledge backed by data and will support them before the season begins,' he added. He appealed to the farmers to address every query of the farmers and document their valuable suggestions as well. 'The 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan' will open new doors of progress for our 'annadatas' (food providers). With this hope, I extend my heartfelt best wishes to the entire team and all the farmers,' he added. (ANI)

IIVR scientists reach out to 2,000 farmers across 6 dists under ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan'

1 2 Varanasi: In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to revamp and energize the agriculture sector, the Indian Institute of Vegetable Research (IIVR) in Varanasi organised a comprehensive farmer awareness programme on Thursday as part of the 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan 2025'. According to the IIVR authorities, the programme reached 2,063 farmers across 33 villages in six districts of Uttar Pradesh. Over 50 scientists from the institute engaged in direct technical discussions with farmers through face-to-face interactions. The campaign was conducted in Varanasi, Chandauli, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Bhadohi and Kushinagar districts, with the highest participation of 462 farmers recorded in Kushinagar. In Varanasi district, 160 farmers from villages Pratappatti, Edilpur, Karaulli, and Daulatiya in Harahua and Sevapuri blocks participated in the programme. During the programme, farmers shared major challenges including Nilgai menace, irregular rainfall, water quality issues, soil health problems, market prices, high water table, urbanisation pressure, and availability of quality seeds. Scientists provided detailed information on natural farming, integrated pest management, new varieties, soil health management, crop diversification, direct seeded rice cultivation, summer ploughing, and govt schemes. IIVR director Rajesh Kumar, who was present at the Karaulli village programme in Varanasi, said, "This campaign is a significant initiative towards doubling farmers' income and promoting sustainable agriculture. Establishing direct dialogue with over 2,000 farmers today is extremely encouraging. Our responsibility is not limited to research alone, but extends to delivering scientific techniques to farmers and solving their problems. The positive response received from this campaign is highly inspiring for us." The institute has also announced regular follow-up programmes and establishment of demonstration plots. Lauding Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a national campaign aimed at educating farmers about modern and sustainable agricultural technologies as well as practices, CM Yogi Adityanath had on Thursday said that this was the first time when agricultural scientist would come out of their labs and other big institutions to take stock of the agricultural land at the ground level and devise strategies to meet the challenges the farmers face. Speaking at the launch of the campaign, Yogi said that the initiative will prove to be a foundation of the 'Viksit Bharat Abhiyan' envisioned by PM Modi. He said that agriculture scientists, officials from the agriculture and the allied sectors and farmers would come together to wheel in measures for higher agricultural productivity and growth.

UP to meet 1/3rd of Krishi Abhiyan national target

Lucknow: A day after CM Yogi Adityanath rolled out the centrally-driven Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, the Uttar Pradesh govt said that it would aim to reach out to at least 50 lakh farmers as part of the campaign. If done, UP would alone contribute to one third of the target set under the campaign nationally. The projection aligns with the UP's status of contributing 22% of the total food grains produced in the country, despite a limited agricultural land area (it is 11% of the national). Described as a "lab to land mission" by CM Yogi Adityanath, the campaign — spanning between May 29 and June 12 — seeks to modernise Indian agriculture through scientific outreach, sustainable practices and farmer empowerment. Under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, farmers across the state will be educated on the latest kharif crop technologies, natural farming practices, and benefits for soil, water and environment. The campaign is poised to cover 65,000 villages across 723 districts and is expected to engage directly with around 1.5 crore farmers across the country. A state govt spokesperson said the initiatives such as Kisan Kalyan Kendras, Kisan Pathshalas and Million Farmers School at the Nyaya Panchayat level, implemented during the rabi and kharif seasons project the UP govt's commitment towards agricultural growth and farmer welfare. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The official said the state govt would also rely on district-specific centres of excellence for targeted crops. The Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) established in every district play the most crucial role in accelerating this entire program. The total number of KVKs has already risen to 89 in the state. The spokesperson said the govt plans to upgrade these KVKs into centres of excellence. In the first phase, 18 KVKs were selected in Dec 2023, with a sanctioned project cost of Rs 26.36 crore. Work is underway to establish centres of excellence at the remaining KVKs. Each centre has been directed to focus on priority sectors that align with local agricultural traditions and climate zones. Given the govt's strong focus on extension services, it has undertaken this challenging campaign with confidence. Additionally, agricultural experts will provide guidance on the use of improved seeds for higher yields, seed treatment and purification, soil health improvement, mixed cropping techniques, drip and sprinkler irrigation, drone applications in agriculture, enhancing horticultural crop quality and productivity, and crop protection and safety measures. Furthermore, the campaign will promote enrollment and support for key government initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, Farmer Registry and Fasal Bima Yojana.
