Golaghat police seize illegal pistol, arrest man after parents alert authorities

1 2 3 4 Dibrugarh: Golaghat police arrested a man and seized an illegal pistol and ammunition from him after his parents alerted authorities about the weapon. Dulon Lahon , a resident of No 2 Tengani village under Barpathar Police Station, has a criminal history. He was arrested on Sunday after police recovered an unlicensed pistol, two live rounds of ammunition, and one spent cartridge from his possession, officials said. The arrest came after Lahon's parents alerted the local Village Defence Party (VDP) members upon discovering the firearm in their son's possession. Acting swiftly, the VDP informed the police, who conducted a raid at the residence and recovered the weapon. "The family members noticed the pistol and immediately reported it to the VDP, showing commendable civic responsibility. Their actions potentially prevented a serious crime from occurring. Legal proceedings against Lahon have been initiated under relevant sections of the Arms Act ," said a senior police officer from Barpathar Police Station. We are investigating the source of the weapon and exploring possible connections to known arms smuggling networks operating along the Assam-Nagaland border," the officer said.
