Grocery store apologizes for joke about ‘Liberal Tears' ice cream flavour following federal election
A Markham grocery store has apologized for a joke about introducing a new 'Liberal Tears' ice cream flavour after the federal election. Village Grocer had an ad in their weekly flyer posted Wednesday that read: 'After the election results started to roll in on Monday night, the 'Liberal Tears' flavour of ice cream Eddie planned on introducing this week had to be scrapped and we had to roll with Plan B.' The ad for their in-store creamery then described their new Guava Ice Cream flavour. 'We published our flyer with a tongue-in-cheek reference to the election, my intent was to highlight our sensational new guava flavour of ice cream, it was never to upset anybody,' the store wrote in an apology to Instagram on Thursday. The independent family store, which was founded in 1986 in the Unionville area, apologized to those who were 'hurt and offended' by the remarks. A post of the flyer gained some traction on the Markham Reddit page, with some commenters upset that the store was unnecessarily dipping into politics. Since the post, the grocer has been flooded with one-star reviews on the store's Google page. A post shared by The Village Grocer (@thevillagegrocer) The store turned off comments in their apology post and have removed the 'Liberal Tears' comment from their online savings flyer. Mark Carney's Liberal party won Monday's federal election and will form a minority government, winning 169 seats. The Markham-Unionville riding went blue on Monday with the Conservative Party's Michael Ma winning a tight race against the Liberal candidate. Markham's other two ridings both went Liberal with incumbent Helena Jaczek winning in Stouffville and Tim Hodgson winning in Thornhill.

Sunway Malls to launch Sunway Square Mall in September

To be located at Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, the mall will span 300,000 sq ft and have a net lettable area across four retail floors. Sunway Malls said Sunway Square Mall is already 95% leased. 'Unlike conventional malls, Sunway Square Mall places emphasis on leisure and entertainment as its key differentiator. The key tenants unveiled include Village Grocer, BUMP Bouldering, TGV Cinemas, The Library by BookXcess, COUNT, KKV, Tutu Toe Dance Academy and GoFit. 'With over 150 shops and 3,000 integrated parking bays, the mall aims to blend lifestyle with leisure to cultivate learning and growth. Simultaneously, Sunway Square Mall will feature a wide array of food and beverage (F&B) to cater to the surrounding office, student, and residential communities,' said Sunway Malls in a statement. The group added that Sunway Square Mall will comprise twin commercial towers, a world-class 1,200-seater performing arts centre and a 24-hour library with several million books. Sunway Malls chief executive officer HC Chan said Sunway Square Mall is part of Sunway Square, a visionary development designed to integrate a multifaceted range of spaces, catering to the arts, commerce, education and business.
