Rajeev Shukla likely to become acting BCCI president in July: Sources
By Vipul Kashyap Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 2 (ANI): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice President Rajeev Shukla is likely to become the acting president of the board in July after the current president Roger Binny, touches the age of 70 on July 19 this year, as per sources. 65-year-old Shukla will first get the acting president role for three months. With the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September, the month he would turn 66, he could stand for the post of full-time president in the elections, added the sources. Roger was elected as the 36th president of BCCI in October 2022, replacing ex-Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, who completed his three-year tenure. Notably, Binny was the only candidate to have filed a nomination for the top post. During his presidency, India won two white-ball titles, the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He also introduced the Women's Premier League (WPL), a women's franchise cricket league on the lines of highly-successful IPL. It was during his presidency that several steps related to proper strengthening and prioritising domestic cricket with help of better incentives, pay and having seniors participate in domestic tournaments took place. Binny, a bowling all-rounder, has represented India in 27 test matches and 72 ODIs. He took 47 wickets in Tests and scored 830 runs with five half-centuries. In 72 ODIs, he took 77 wickets and scored 629 runs with a half-century. The right-arm pacer bagged 47 wickets in tests while also picking 77 in ODIs. He was a crucial contributor to India's first-ever World Cup victory, being the highest wicket-taker for India in the 1983 World Cup with 18 wickets. Binny has previously served as a member of the BCCI selection committee. (ANI)

Invitation extended to all three Indian Armed Forces chiefs, top officers for IPL final: BCCI secretary
By Vipul Kashyap New Delhi [India], May 27 (ANI): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia said that an invitation has been extended to Chiefs of all three Armed forces, top-ranked officers and soldiers for the Indian Premier League (IPL) final, which will take place on June 3 in Ahmedabad. The title clash of the IPL will be held on June 3 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. The ongoing edition of the tournament was temporarily suspended on May 9 due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, which also involved the Indian Armed Forces carrying out Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The move by the BCCI is aimed at celebrating the success of the operation. 'We have extended an invitation to all Indian Armed Forces chiefs (General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of Army Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, the Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, the Chief of Air Staff), top-ranked officers and soldiers for the IPL final in Ahmedabad to celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor,' Saikia told ANI. Operation Sindoor was India's decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Launched on May 7, Operation Sindoor led to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. After the attack, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control and Jammu and Kashmir as well as attempted drone attacks along the border regions, following which India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres, and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan. After this, on May 10, an understanding of the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was announced. Coming to the IPL, Punjab Kings (PBKS) sealed their top spot on the table and a slot in the qualifier with a win over Mumbai Indians (MI) on Monday. The Qualifier one will take place at Mullanpur on May 29 and will witness PBKS battle either Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) or Gujarat Titans (GT). The eliminator, featuring Mumbai Indians (MI), will take place in Mullanpur as well on May 30 and will witness the five-time champions battle either RCB or GT. RCB, placed third in the points table with 17 points next to GT (18 points), have a chance to book a qualifier one spot if they win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their clash at Lucknow, taking place on Tuesday. By Vipul Kashyap New Delhi [India], May 21 (ANI): Former India frontline off-spinner Harbhajan Singh played a huge role in bringing the IPL 2025 Playoffs 1 and Eliminator fixture to the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh, according to sources. The venues for the playoffs of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League were unveiled on Tuesday. According to the latest schedule, Qualifier 1 will be hosted in New Chandigarh on May 29, featuring the top two-ranked sides, followed by an engrossing Eliminator clash on May 30. Following the announcement, sources revealed that 'Harbhajan Singh played a huge role in getting Qualifier 1 and Eliminator matches to Chandigarh.' Along with the New PCA Stadium, Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, the world's largest cricket stadium, will serve as the venue for an electrifying Qualifier 2 on June 1 and the grand final of the 18th edition of the cash-rich league on June 3. Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings have punched their tickets for the IPL playoffs. Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals are still in hot pursuit of the last spot. DC and MI are set to square off against each other at the Wankhede Stadium, but the high-stakes fixture could be impacted by rain after the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Mumbai on Tuesday evening for the next four days. According to ESPNcricinfo, the rain arrived in Mumbai around 8 pm, and DC wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul's practice session was cut short as a result. By then, the Mumbai Indians had completed their session. For most of the evening, Mumbai experienced heavy downpours accompanied by dark clouds hovering over the Wankhede Stadium. In a scenario where the fixture gets ruled out, both teams would walk away with a single point, and everything will hinge on their final group stage fixture. BCCI Secretary Saikia dismisses reports of pulling out of ACC events, calls them
By Vipul Kashyap New Delhi [India], May 19 (ANI): BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed media reports suggesting that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided not to participate in this year's Asia Cup and the Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. Recent reports claimed that the BCCI had informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) of its decision to withdraw from both events -- the Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka next month, and the Men's Asia Cup, slated for September. Saikia categorically denied the reports, claiming that the BCCI hasn't engaged in such conversations or taken any steps regarding the ACC events. The BCCI secretary labelled the reports as 'speculative and imaginary.' 'Since this morning, it has come to our notice that some news items about BCCI's decision not to participate in the Asia Cup and the Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup, both ACC events. Such news is devoid of any truth as till now, BCCI has not even discussed or taken any such steps regarding the ensuing ACC events, let alone writing anything to the ACC. At this stage, our prime focus is on the ongoing IPL and subsequent England series, both men's and women's,' Saikia told ANI. 'The Asia Cup matter or any other ACC event issue has not come up for discussion at any level; hence, any news or report on it is purely speculative and imaginary. It may be said that BCCI, as and when any discussion on any ACC events takes place and any important decision is reached, the same will be announced through the media,' he added. India is the Asia Cup's defending champion and designated host. In 2023, India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, and Sri Lanka was picked as the neutral venue for India's fixtures. Earlier this year, Pakistan hosted the Champions Trophy, but India denied travelling to Pakistan and played all its matches in Dubai. The ACC is headed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The PCB chairman, who also serves as Pakistan's interior minister, succeeded Shammi Silva, President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). (ANI)

IPL set to resume next week across four venues: BCCI official
By Vipul Kashyap New Delhi [India] May 11 (ANI): The Indian Premier League (IPL) will resume next week across four venues, with the specific locations still to be finalised. The venues for the eliminator and final matches are expected to remain unchanged. 'IPL will restart next week, in four venues. The venues will be shortlisted soon, and the venues of the qualifier, eliminator and finals are likely to remain the same,' a BCCI official told ANI. 'The tournament will resume with the match between RCB and LSG. The final venue could be changed as rain can affect the matches in Kolkata later, so this call will be taken accordingly.' On Friday, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that the remainder of the tournament had been postponed for a week and that a new schedule would be announced soon. The match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala was called off midway through the first innings on Thursday. Spectators were informed of the cancellation and asked to vacate the premises, while both teams were escorted back to their hotel. In an official statement, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said, 'The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.' 'The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans; while the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders,' he added. Later in the day, the inaugural edition of the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, which was set to be held on May 24 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, was postponed until further notice due to rising tensions between the two neighbouring countries.
