Aizawl: Union minister of state for road transport and highways Ajay Tamta conducted a detailed assessment of infrastructure projects and public amenities in Mizoram during his recent state visit. The minister inspected the ongoing construction of a 100-metre arch bridge over the Tlawng River along the Aizawl-Lengpui airport route and NH-108 connecting Aizawl with Mamit district. He reviewed the progress with contractors and PWD officials, setting a completion deadline of Sept 2025. During his visit to the upcoming Sairang railway station site, he stressed the importance of rapid implementation to enhance regional transport links. At the planned Aizawl bypass location, Virender Jakhar, ED (Projects), RO Aizawl, provided a thorough presentation on the project's layout and essential features, designed to reduce traffic and improve urban movement. The western bypass construction is funded through PM-DevINE. Additionally, Rs 6,400 crore has been allocated for upcoming NHIDCL projects. The Aizawl-Tuipang Highway and Seling-Champhai Corridor have enhanced connections to Myanmar, Bangladesh, and neighbouring states including Assam, Tripura, and Manipur, facilitating commerce and transportation. Two significant bypasses are under construction in Aizawl — a 34.5-km eastern bypass under Bharatmala Pariyojana with a 2.4 km tunnel by NHIDCL costing Rs 2,300 crore, and a 45-km western bypass under PM-DevINE scheme worth Rs 500 crore by state PWD. Both projects target completion by 2028. Railway development gained momentum after 2014. Mizoram connected to the Broad Gauge network at Bhairabi in 2016. Aizawl will join the national railway network with the completion of the Bairabi-Sairang line, expected to operate by July. Sairang station's modernisation under the Amrit Bharat Scheme represents a significant milestone for regional connectivity. The housing sector has seen 48,000 homes constructed under PMAY. Aibawk town became India's first completed urban cluster, while Aizawl receives Rs 513 crore for development under Smart Cities Mission. JJM has provided tap water to over 1.24 lakh households. Healthcare access has expanded with 5.17 lakh Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries and 15 Jan Aushadhi Kendras. A State Medical College and Horticulture College are being established with Central support. A new 100-bed hospital at RIPANS will enhance tertiary healthcare. RIPANS, near Aizawl, serves northeast students in nursing, pharmacy, and paramedical programmes. Financial inclusion shows progress with 4 lakh Jan Dhan accounts, 53% held by women. PM Mudra Yojana has distributed Rs. 2,635 crore to 1.58 lakh beneficiaries, primarily SC/ST and women. PM SVANidhi supports 2,500 street vendors, with 8.8 lakh people covered under social security schemes. Economic growth continues through the Rs. 10,037 crore UNNATI 2024 scheme and increased tax allocation of Rs. 7,112 crore for 2025-26. Tourism receives Rs. 200 crore under Swadesh Darshan and PRASAD. Youth engagement occurs through Paryatan Mitra and Apna Radio 90.0 FM. Mizoram's development demonstrates the government's dedication to balanced regional growth. With central support, the state advances towards enhanced connectivity and prosperity.
