Govt orders O2 preparedness drill at all health facilities in Haryana
Gurgaon: Haryana health department has ordered a statewide drill at all health facilities to assess preparedness on oxygen availability and functionality of pressure swing adsorption (PSA) — a gas separation technique — plants across all districts. Secretary to govt of Haryana Dr RS Dhillon has issued instructions to the state's director general health services (DGHS) to "ensure immediate compliance." All districts have been directed to submit their report by Monday evening. The move — in line with the directive from the ministry of health & family welfare, govt of India — will evaluate the critical infrastructure in anticipation of any surge in respiratory infections. All civil surgeons and concerned district-level officers have been directed to "organise and oversee the drills". NHM director Dr Virender Yadav said, "Each district team comprises nodal officers responsible for testing, home isolation care, logistics and oxygen supply." "Their consolidated findings are critical for Haryana's health authorities to refine emergency response systems, ensure uninterrupted oxygen supply and improve Covid-19 and respiratory illness management capabilities. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 미소로 적을 베고.무적의 전설을 만들어라! 무신전설 ApesGame 등록 Undo Districts are already carrying out drills," Yadav said. Key areas of assessment include the functional status of PSA plants and oxygen concentrators, availability of filled oxygen cylinders and identified oxygen refilling plants, functionality of oxygen pipeline systems and other oxygen delivery equipment like flow meters and ventilators and stock availability of essential items including Covid-19 home isolation kits, RT-PCR kits, RAT kits, extraction kits and VTM vials.

Sex ratio under 700 in 481 villages, Haryana finds
Gurgaon: Confronted with a falling gender ratio again after making good progress in correcting it, has over the past few months taken a series of measures to plug possible gaps in rules and enforcement that are allowing to happen. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now But the clearest answers yet have come as it has looked deep. Surveys have identified 481 villages across the state – which is around 7% of its 6,842 villages (2011 Census) – that have over the past five years consistently had a severely skewed sex ratio at birth — below 700 girls per 1,000 boys. Most of these villages are concentrated in the northern and northeastern districts of the state. Ambala tops the list with 54, its neighbour Yamunanagar follows with 53. Panchkula, in the same region, has 38 such villages. The other hub of concern is the southwest, where Bhiwani has 46 such villages and Mahendergarh has 42. Geographically, what's common to the regions is that they are close to state borders – Rajasthan in the south and Punjab and Himachal Pradesh up north. Sources in the health department said the location makes illegal gender selection clinics running across the state borders easily accessible to locals. 'This access has made it alarmingly simple for families to bypass the state's vigil on illegal terminations of pregnancy. People go to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and even Delhi for sex determination tests and abortions. Unless there is coordinated action across states and strict surveillance at the inter-state level, declining sex ratio in Haryana will remain a deep-rooted problem,' a senior health department official said. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now While this is a stiff challenge, what the numbers serve is a stark reminder of the mindset that the state sought to change when it launched the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign in 2015. The outreach will have to double down. Incidentally, in the state's most urbanised areas in NCR bordering Delhi, there are 53 villages – 20 in Jhajjar, 18 in Gurgaon, 13 in Faridabad and 2 in Rohtak – where the ratio of girls to boys is under 700. 'We will now go for a targeted approach and carry out special Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao camps,' director-general of health services Dr Kuldeep Singh told TOI. Among measures the state has taken in the meantime is compiling a district-wise list of all BAMS/BHMS doctors in private practice. Chief medical officers have been told to 'retro-track' dilation and curettage (gynaecological) procedures. Last year, thirteen of Haryana's 22 districts saw a fall in sex ratio at birth, taking the state's overall SRB for the year to 910, which was its lowest since 2016. Dr Virender Yadav, convenor of the state's task force to tackle illegal sex selection and abortions, said, 'Reports from medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) centres are being analysed and any centre carrying out MTP of a woman who has two girl children will be monitored rigorously. Licences will be cancelled if they are found violating provisions of the MTP Act. Out of a total of 1,500 MTP centres in the state, registration of 384 MTP centres has been cancelled. Notices have been issued to 30 MTP centres. In the last four months (Jan 25 to April 25) 28 raids were conducted by the health department under the PNDT (Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques) Act.' This year, sources said, SRB has improved to 911, citing central govt's civil registration system (CRS). At 834, Haryana's SRB was the lowest among all Indian states when data was studied in the 2011 Census. The state improved its count to 923 by 2019 but started seeing a downward trend thereafter. Additional chief secretary (health) Sudhir Rajpal last month told the health department to take strict action against any illegal practice and monitor data from MTP centres. The state drug controller was instructed to compile a list of MTP kit wholesalers and ensure that the kits are only sold to registered MTP centres. Referring to the list of villages with a heavy gender skew, Dr DB Saharan, former Haryana DGHS, said, 'This data highlights the persistent issue of gender imbalance in rural Haryana, raising concerns about the underlying socio-cultural factors contributing to this disparity. Authorities and social organisations have to intensify efforts to address gender bias and promote gender equality.'

Gurgaon: The licence of a Ayurveda doctor in Sonipat, who violated the gender testing laws has been cancelled. The move was taken on Tuesday to enforce regulations aimed at protecting the girl child, health officials said. "The licence of the Ayurveda doctor — who violated the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC & PNDT) Act and the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act — was cancelled by the Council of Indian Medicine," director, health services (DHS), Dr Virender Yadav said, adding, "Out of a total of 1,500 MTP centres in the state, 379 MTP centres have been closed and the registration of 16 MTP centres was suspended in the last month." National Health Mission launches drive to boost healthcare, checks soon at hospitals in Haryana
Gurgaon: In a bid to improve healthcare services in the state, ensuring accountability, high-quality service and efficiency, the national health mission (NHM), Haryana on Tuesday launched a new programme called Sarthak. The programme is based on collecting data, evaluating it, and getting real-time feedback. Teams from NHM Haryana and the director general health services (DGHS) will visit each district to check on healthcare facilities. The team will look at everything from big hospitals to small health centres. They will also assess the work of frontline health workers like accredited social health activists (ASHAs) and auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs). Dr Virender Yadav, director of NHM Haryana, said, "Sarthak will help find and fix gaps in healthcare services, use resources better, and ensure health programmes are working well. The teams will write reports after their visits and give them to local officials to help improve healthcare in their areas." "We will focus on maternal health across Haryana. The health department is training women, their family members, and carers in basic medical skills to help new mothers recover after giving birth," he added. Pertinent to note, the state has fallen behind on maternal healthcare. Haryana's maternal mortality rate (MMR) rose 14% from 96 in 2016-18 to 110 in 2018-20, according to data from the Registrar General of India (RGI). "We have formed 10 teams, each with two members, for this programme. The first team after the launch visited Jhajjar," he said, adding that, "This programme is a big step towards better healthcare in Haryana, ensuring that each and everyone gets the care they need." The initiative also emphasises community participation in health facilities and various NHM-related programmes. "Through Sarthak, we aim to bridge gaps in service delivery, optimise resource utilisation, and ensure the effective implementation of NHM programmes across the state," he said on Tuesday.
