Brutal Takedown: Fleeing In Stolen Toyota, Suspect Gets Pitted Into A Concrete Wall
Read the full story on The Auto Wire Sometimes we can't believe the cars criminals use to try running from police, like this suspect caught in a stolen Toyota Corolla he tries using to run a couple of pursuing troopers off the highway. He even uses the little compact sedan to ram one of the Viriginia State Police cruisers a few times, utterly failing to push the little four banger hard enough to get footage shows the whole chase play out after a plate reader alerted troopers to the presence of the stolen Toyota. What anyone watching this who's dumb enough to drive around in a stolen vehicle should learn from this is if you're in a Corolla, just pull over and surrender. Running is going to be far more painful. But this individual seems to think he can get away. Look, if you can't smoke a couple of Ford Explorer Police Interceptors, well that's pathetic. Despite that glaring fact staring this guy in the face, he keeps pushing the Corolla for all it's worth, which in a police chase really isn't all that much. Don't get us wrong, a Corolla is a great car for a young driver or a price conscious commuter who also wants a vehicle that won't grenade its engine or transmission just north of 100,000 miles. But it's a horrible getaway ride. After the troopers deal with this fool ramming them, running them off the road, and slipping out of attempts to box him in, the gloves come off. That's when one of the troopers does a hard PIT maneuver, spinning the Toyota so it hits a concrete wall, spraying sparks everywhere. In a testament to the Corolla's durability, that doesn't concave the sedan's body structure but it does end the chase. Still, our suspect driver thinks he's a track star until a trooper wearing 50 lbs. of gear easily chases him down, showing he's about as slow as the stolen car he was driving. Sad. Genius Motorcycle Rider With Passenger Flees Police
Read the full story on The Auto Wire Running from police is dangerous, but doing it on a motorcycle is even riskier, especially when you have a passenger on the back. At least in this dashcam footage of a chase from Viriginia State Police both riders were wearing helmets, but that still doesn't make the decision to run any to the stupidity of the situation, the trooper can easily read the license plate on the motorcycle (ironically it's '2FAST4U'). Unless it were stolen (which it wasn't) authorities know exactly who's riding it. Why this guy thought he could take off and not face consequences if he 'got away' is beyond us. But wait, there are even more bad decisions in this chase. The guy holding the handlebars makes a lot of risky choices, not only lane splitting but also swerving in front of drivers who clearly don't see the bike. Talk about trusting in the skills of everyday people behind the wheel. As the chase progresses, other VSP units in the area jump in to help. That's the thing with running from police, they usually help each other and they have radios to coordinate. For all you know, there's a trap down the road or some sort of trick they're about to pull to bring you to a halt. Still, the little motorcycle does have an advantage when the chase comes upon thicker traffic on Virginia Beach surface streets. He really pushes it, blowing red lights and yet again trusting his skills and the watchful eyes of drivers to not become street pizza. Despite all these tricks and risks, the guy can't shake VSP as troopers close the once widening gap. Running from cops was a bad idea, but it's even worse to keep at it when you clearly can't get away. But the guy just keeps going, slipping out of an attempt to box him in. But that puts the rider in a neighborhood he clearly doesn't know and he turns onto a dead end street in one last genius move. Had he just pulled over and taken the ticket for reckless riding he would've been dealing with just that. Now he gets harsher penalties all because the guy thought running from troopers was a smart idea. Dodge Charger Scat Pack Can't Shake Virginia Trooper
Read the full story on The Auto Wire We don't see too many interesting chases from Viriginia State Police, but this one involving a fleeing Dodge Charger Scat Pack has plenty of excitement. It also showcases the superior driving skills of at least one state trooper, even though he's severely outgunned in the dashcam footage from this incident sure is interesting to watch. The camera car joins in the pursuit after the Mopar muscle car gets away from one member of VSP. We see the trooper coming in hot, passing on the shoulder and doing all he can to get into position on another highway before the suspect comes along. All his effort pays off as he gets in right behind the matte purple Scat Pack. But the suspect is determined to get away. The guy pulls a risky move, cutting across the gore point and almost hitting a barrier, taking an exit at the last second. While the trooper isn't fooled even a little, the Charger blacks out, trying to take advantage of its non-reflective, dark exterior to disappear into the night. We get a clue about how skilled the suspect driver is when he immediately hits his turn signal a few times, defeating the purpose of blacking out. But once the suspect goes through a transition ramp and gets on yet another highway, he nails it and takes off, easily pulling away from the trooper. It's difficult for most police cruisers to keep up with such high-powered vehicles. For his part, the trooper, keeps the suspect in sight and relays his moves to dispatch. Then the suspect gets off the highway, perhaps hoping the turns on surface streets will let him ditch his tail. Outgunned, the trooper has a lot to handle, but he leverages superior driving skill to make up for the lack of horsepower. What our suspect doesn't know is troopers down the line are setting up spikes to blow out the Mopar muscle car's tires. However, a sudden turn onto a freeway thwarts that trap. It doesn't matter anyway, because not too long after the trooper notices one of the rear drive tires on the Dodge is blown out. His ability to flee greatly reduced, our suspect almost becomes a sitting duck as the trooper goes in for the kill. But before he can close the gap all the way, the driver bails and runs, realizing the muscle car is done. We hope he got a criminal charge for that wrap, because it's a violation of good taste.
