CM charts out bold path for cities' growth by 2036

Bhubaneswar: CM Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday announced an ambitious plan to boost Odisha's urbanisation rate from the current 17% to 40% by 2036 and 60% by 2047. The announcement came during his address at the 10th governing council meeting of NITI Aayog in New Delhi, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The centrepiece of this urban transformation includes developing a massive 7,000 sq km metropolitan region — comparable to the size of the Hyderabad Metropolitan region — encompassing Bhubaneswar, Khurda, Jatni, Cuttack, Paradip, and Puri. Similar development plans are in the pipeline for other growth centres across the state. Speaking at the meeting, Majhi outlined his vision for 'Viksit Odisha', targeting to grow the state's economy to $500 billion by 2036 and $1.5 trillion by 2047. "Odisha will be the growth engine in the country's development journey over the next 25 years," Majhi assured. The CM said Vision Odisha 2036 and 2047 documents, incorporating suggestions from over 320,000 citizens and analysed using AI, will be launched on June 12, on the first anniversary of his oath. The CM highlighted several key initiatives, including implementation of the ' ', which has benefitted over 1 crore women with disbursements exceeding Rs 10,000 crore. He also announced plans to fill 1,50,000 govt positions over the next five years. In terms of investment, the recent Utkarsh Odisha Conclave attracted 593 proposals worth Rs 16.73 lakh crore across 20 sectors, with the potential to create 12.88 lakh jobs. The state is also focusing on developing special tourism zones, including the Hirakud region and Buddhist circuit. Majhi expressed gratitude for the Centre's support, noting sanctioned railway projects worth Rs 73,000 crore and National Highways projects valued at Rs 4,600 crore, with additional projects worth Rs 17,500 crore in the pipeline. "I will personally monitor its implementation," he said. The CM outlined key focus areas, including complete irrigation coverage for cultivable lands, rapid urbanisation, and development of port-based special economic zones along the state's coastline. He emphasised the state's commitment to attracting investments in textiles, garments, food processing, and new-age industries to generate large-scale employment. Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday said his government has prepared 36 flagship programmes to build a prosperous and 'Viksit Odisha' by its centenary year in said this at a consultation workshop on preparation of Vision Odisha 2036 and 2047 documents. Steps will be taken to ensure all kinds of basic amenities reach the people in the lower stratum of society by 2036, he government has taken an ambitious resolution to make Odisha a prosperous State by 2036. Besides, Odisha will also play an important role in achieving the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047, Majhi said. He said the vision document is a roadmap for the dreams of 4.5 crore people of the State and a promise for future generations. Stating that the preparation of the vision document has reached the final stage, Majhi said the draft is ready and the final document will be prepared after consulting with experts.'Our vision document is being prepared for the people and by the people. More than 3.2 lakh suggestions have been received from the citizens of Odisha and also Odias living abroad,' he said. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been used to prepare the document, he said, adding that Odisha is the first State in India which is preparing the document by analysing the data and suggestions given by the public with the help of Chief Minister said MLAs and MPs have also been requested through letters to give their valuable feedback, given their long experience. A State-level consultation workshop was held on Friday while three regional workshops will be held in Sambalpur, Balasore and Jeypore in the coming days, he said.

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday said the state government has decided to implement 36 programmes in various sectors to realise the Viksit Odisha by 2036 goals. Presiding over a consultation workshop for Vision Odisha 2036 and 2047 documents at the Lok Seva Bhawan here, the chief minister said that the programmes will be selected from the fields of industry, education, health, infrastructure, rural development, tourism, tribal welfare, women's empowerment, Odia language and culture. Stating that Odisha will become a $500 billion economy by 2036, the chief minister said steps have been initiated to ensure that people at the bottom of the society will get all basic facilities. 'Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country and the state is firmly on the path to progress. On the occasion of the centenary celebrations of Odisha's formation as a state in 2036, the government has taken a firm resolve to make it one of the most developed states in the country. Odisha will also play an important role in achieving the goal of making our country a developed nation by 2047,' he said. Majhi said the state government opened the doors for consultation to prepare the vision documents and received over 3.2 lakh proposals from the general people of the state and non-resident Odias. It is the first state in the country to prepare this document by analysing data and suggestions given by the people with the help of artificial intelligence, he said. The state-level workshop was attended by experienced administrators, educationists, public representatives, representatives of industry and civil society and eminent personalities from the field of art and culture. A draft has already been prepared, and the final version will be completed after consultations with experts. Majhi expressed confidence that a prosperous Odisha will be realised by 2036. The Chief Minister said the aim is to transform Odisha into a $500 billion economy. Steps will be taken to ensure that even the most marginalised sections of society receive access to all essential services by 2036. Majhi made these remarks while attending the state-level 'Consultation Workshop' organized as part of the 'Vision Odisha 2036 and 2047' initiative held in Bhubaneswar. He emphasised that the vision document serves as a roadmap for the dreams of 4.5 crore Odias and represents a promise to future generations. The Chief Minister added that following the state-level workshop, three regional workshops will be held in Sambalpur, Balasore, and Jajpur to gather more inputs. Participants at Friday's workshop included experienced administrators, educators, public representatives, industry leaders, civil society members, and eminent figures from Odisha's arts, culture, and heritage sectors. They shared their views and submitted proposals to the government. Majhi revealed that 36 top-priority programs have been identified to make a meaningful impact in critical sectors by 2036. This strategic initiative is expected to accelerate Odisha's development journey. He stressed that a whole-of-government approach will be adopted to implement the programs, which will span across key sectors such as economy, industry, education, health, infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, science and research, innovation, and women's empowerment. Majhi reiterated the government's ambitious resolution to transform Odisha into a prosperous state by 2036, marking the centenary of the state's formation. He also highlighted Odisha's envisioned contribution to India's goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. 'Our Vision 2036 and 2047 documents reflect an ambitious resolve to build a prosperous, developed, and proud Odisha—a 'Developed Odisha' that will shine brightly as part of a 'Developed India,'' he stated. In alignment with the Prime Minister's 'Jan Bhagidari' initiative, Majhi noted that over 3.2 lakh suggestions have been received from citizens of Odisha and the Odia diaspora worldwide. He further emphasised that Odisha is the first state in India to use artificial intelligence for analysing public feedback and data to prepare its vision document. Majhi also mentioned that Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and Members of Parliament (MPs) have been requested to provide their valuable input, considering their extensive experience. Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Women and Child Development, Parvathi Parida, who also attended the event, emphasised the importance of aligning present conditions with future goals in formulating an effective action plan.
