Swiss Company to modernise Baghdad Airport

AFM Group, a Swiss-based company specialising in advanced airport systems, has signed two agreements with Iraq's General Company for Air Navigation Services (GCANS) for the modernisation of Baghdad International Airport (BIAP).
The scope of these agreements includes: The upgrade of the airfield lighting system to energy-efficient LED technology;
The replacement of existing aircraft docking systems with new-generation Visual Docking Guidance Systems (VDGS) supplied by Belgian company ADB Safegate.
According to AFM Group, these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance airside safety and efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and support the future growth of air traffic at Baghdad International Airport.
" The implementation of VDGS systems in particular will help optimise aircraft movement and ensure precise stand guidance, especially under low-visibility conditions, " the company added.
