Death owing to COVID suspected in Belagavi
An old man is suspected to have died of COVID-19 related complications in Belagavi.
The 72 year old patient from Benakanahalli village, was taken to a private hospital after he complained of flu-like symptoms four days ago. The doctors referred him to Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences. Doctors shifted him to the COVID ward on Monday. He died in the early hours on Wednesday.
His relatives were present when the body was cremated as per COVID norms, Health Department officials said.
Vithal Shindhe, district surgeon, told reporters that the patient had several problems including breathlessness. He was shifted from a private hospital to BIMS following a RAT test. His swab samples have been collected and sent to Hubballi for further confirmation.
All the staff and doctors in BIMS will be wearing masks, he said.
The senior citizen was the second COVID-19 positive patient in the district. The first detected case, a young pregnant woman, is recovering in a private hospital, I.P. Gadad, district health and family welfare officer, said.
A team of doctors and para medical staff have left for Benakanahalli, the native village of the deceased. They are conducting COVID tests of all the primary and secondary contacts of the patient and those having symptoms of discomfort, and others.
