Man Utd tipped to beat Arsenal to Benjamin Sesko transfer due to 'secret weapon'

RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko could be on the move this summer with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Juventus and AC Milan all linked with a move for the 21-year-old Manchester United's director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, could prove to be a secret weapon in the club's pursuit of Benjamin Sesko. The RB Leipzig striker is hot property across Europe, with the likes of United, Arsenal, Juventus and AC Milan all interested in Sesko. The 21-year-old has scored 39 goals in 87 games across all competitions since joining Leipzig in 2022 and the Bundesliga side are said to be willing to sell him this summer for a fee of around £75million. ‌ Although United are unable to offer Sesko European football next season, it has been claimed that the player's relationship with Vivell could help their cause. According to BILD, Vivell helped discover Sesko when he was RB Salzburg's head of scouting. ‌ Salzburg signed Sesko from Slovenian club Domzale as a 16-year-old prospect in 2019 and it is claimed that Vivell could be a 'secret weapon' for United. Vivell is also said to have personally scouted Sesko for United in April. Despite the club missing out on a spot in the Champions League and the riches that come with that by losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final, chief executive Omar Berrada has insisted United are ready to back Ruben Amorim in the transfer market. "We speak to Ruben very frequently," Berrada told TNT Sports earlier this year. "Ruben has a good relationship with Jason Wilcox. They both share the vision of how they want to see the team playing. ‌ "It is about planning properly for the summer transfer window and having a clear idea of what players we want to bring in. We're making some big efforts to get us in the best financial position. Even if we're outside of Europe - I think we will be in a position to invest in the squad." Amorim also recently opened up about United's transfer plans while on the club's post-season tour, claiming that the team will improve over the summer. "We always prepare two plans: one with Champions League, one without Champions League," he explained. ‌ 'Without Champions League, we don't need a big squad, we can control the squad in a better way. Then we have a plan that is to bring some new players, of course. But our big plan is to improve the team that we have, is to improve our academy, because I think that is the future. "It was the past, so can be the future. It's not going to change so much because we have the financial fair play rules. We are not allowed to do much this summer, even with Champions League, so we are prepared for that. "It's important to stick together. We are going to struggle, it is not going to be everything right away but I have a feeling and I see the team improving and that is the most important thing."

Man Utd still eager to sign Arsenal's £85m target after Liam Delap blow

Manchester United remain interested in signing Arsenal's top target Bejamin Sesko – and hope they might have a secret weapon in their ambitious bid to land the striker. Sesko, 21, is one of Europe's most sought-after young stars and is expected to leave RB Leipzig this summer with a host of clubs keen on his services. He has emerged as Arsenal's leading target to lead Mikel Arteta's attack next season. The Gunners have also explored a move for Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres but Sesko is thought to be the manager's preferred choice with the club holding 'concrete talks' this week. Arsenal expressed interest in the Slovenia international last summer and again in January but RB Leipzig are now ready to do business, set to hold out for a huge £85million fee. While Arsenal are leading the race for his signature, Bild report United's interest remains. This week, Ruben Amorim's side missed out on their top striker target Liam Delap, with the England Under-21 international opting for a move to Chelsea. United's failure to qualify for the Champions League next season cost them in their bid to sign Delap and will surely have major ramifications across the transfer window this summer. Sesko is another target who will likely prefer a club sitting at Europe's top table next season. However, United might hope the striker's pre-existing relationship with their director of recruitment Chistopher Vivell could play a role. Vivell was given a full-time role at United in February following an interim role last summer. The German leads United's global recruitment operating and scouting of the game's top young talent. More Trending Vivell was one of the key figures in unearthing Sesko when he was a 16-year-old still playing in Slovenia, bringing him to Red Bull Salzburg in 2019. The striker joined Leipzig in 2023 where his reputation has continued to grow. Vivell was in attendance to watch Sesko in action as Leipzig beat Wolfsburg in April, keeping a close eye on the player. Arsenal will still consider themselves strong favourites however after a third successive second place finish in the Premier League, also reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League. Man United confirm Christopher Vivell as director of recruitment

Manchester United have officially appointed Christopher Vivell as their full-time director of recruitment following a successful interim spell in the role, according to The Athletic. The 38-year-old initially joined Man United on a short-term contract last summer but has now committed to a multi-year deal at Old Trafford. The new agreement reportedly includes a reduced salary for the Vivell but he remains committed to playing a key role in the INEOS-led restructuring of United's football operations. The German will report directly to technical director Jason Wilcox, who has assumed more responsibilities following the departure of sporting director Dan Ashworth. Vivell previously worked at Chelsea and RB Leipzig. He will oversee United's global recruitment strategy, scouting network, and identification of emerging talent. His appointment comes amid a period of structural change at the club, which includes planned staff cuts as part of an effort to streamline operations. His confirmation as director of recruitment provides clarity ahead of what is expected to be a crucial summer transfer window. A key part of his role will involve reorganising United's scouting network, currently led by director of scouting Steve Brown, which is set to undergo cuts. Reports indicate that, as of early 2023, the club had 140 global scouts, including 90 casuals, a setup viewed by some as excessive. Vivell's track record includes influential roles in the Red Bull football group, where he played a part in signings such as Erling Haaland, Benjamin Sesko, and Dayot Upamecano. United's new leadership, spearheaded by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, believes that improving recruitment is essential to the club's long-term financial stability and competitiveness.

Manchester United appoint Christopher Vivell as full-time director of recruitment

Manchester United have appointed Christopher Vivell as director of recruitment on a full-time basis following his interim spell in the position. Vivell signed a short-term deal last summer, with a view to potentially staying at Old Trafford permanently, and the 38-year-old German has now put pen to paper on a multi-year contract. Advertisement The fresh agreement will include a reduced salary, which underlines his desire and commitment to occupy a key role in the INEOS-led rebuild of United over a prolonged period. Vivell reports into technical director Jason Wilcox, who has assumed greater responsibility after the departure of sporting director Dan Ashworth after five months at the club. The former Chelsea and RB Leipzig executive will lead United's global recruitment operation, scouting structure and emerging talent. This is among the areas which are set to see staff let go, although United declined to comment as they are in a formal legal redundancy process. It forms part of a wider overhaul of the club's football structure, which United say is aimed at creating a more lean, agile and efficient set-up. GO DEEPER Who is Christopher Vivell?
