Three more arrested for murder of JMPD officer
Mogale said the first two suspects, aged 25 and 27, were arrested by the Vaal Rand-based serious organised crime investigation unit on May 15.
The information they received on May 14, she said, was that the police in Lenasia South had responded to a shooting incident that occurred at Winchester Street, Extension 1, Vlakfontein, where it was discovered that the victim was a JMPD officer who had allegedly been shot dead by an unknown assailant.
'The information relayed to law enforcement was that JMPD members were attending to an attempted robbery complaint before the said shooting occurred, where a description of a white VW Polo with NW registration number was involved.'
Mogale said the vehicle was spotted, and the JMPD crew made a tactical approach towards the vehicle but were met with gunfire that killed one officer.
Mogale said all five suspects will appear in the Lenasia magistrate's court on Monday, facing charges of murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as defeating the ends of justice.
